Whether it is in “private” or not it’s still on the internet. Like Vegas, whats on the internet stays on the internet. You don’t know who is copying the picture and what they are using it for. There are pictures of me from over ten years ago that pop up in google image, I have no idea where they are posted, or why or by who. I am not on Facebook. You can’t control the content simply by being “private”. Even if only friends and family see it they probably just want to look at what they perceive as their best.

Why do women wear make up? We know the flaws underneath, the world can see when a massive blemish is being coverd up from the texture under the foundation, that lips are cracked under the lipstick. But people still want to represent themselves as  what they look in the mirror and think is their “best”. Same goes for filters on Facebook.

I hear you.  How about average looking girls posting non stop “look at me, I’m beautiful” selfies…ugh

I have an actual drop dead gorgeous model for a friend on Facebook and not one selfie…lol

yes! And the badly done ones a million tines yes! they are all fuzzy and really strange looking.

i ven have my settings so I have to approve tags so people can’t associate pics I’m not happy to have online with my name. That’s more for prof reasons though I did have a frenemy who used to take HEINOUS pics and revel in publishing them!

Insecurity. I’ll be the first to admit I think I look horrible in photos and am overly critical. So I don’t post many. But when people alter them so much… try to have sympathy with someone who can’t stand the sight of their unaltered face. It must be rough for them.

I totally agree with that, but my suggestion is for you — sympathy can keep it from annoying you so much.

If you want to help them I guess you could share an article about coming to terms with aging?
