I ADORE all the people I work with. I work at a university and our office is filled with amazing people who pull their own weight and are very aware of the communal environment.
However…

We recently hired a new student worker (the only guy in an office full of women) and I find myself forced to address some pretty basic office/work no-no’s with him on a daily basis. For instance his cube is right outside of my office door and he whistles ALL THE TIME. ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. He also belches, very loudly, as he walks down the main office aisle that is surrounded by offices and cubicles. His friends stop by during working hours and hang out for 15-20 minutes talking loudly and laughing with him.

I have patience with him though (most of the time…) because I view student workers as the teenagers of the workplace, they still need some guidance before released onto the world.
🙂

JLFinch:  Yes, I did! I’m a super slow reader so I haven’t gotten very far. I also am not sure I want to know anything beyond them as children, you know? So iconic and ingrained in my brain. How about you?

And by the way, we have 2 very loud typers! They are both on the ergonomic keyboard so am not sure if that has anything to do with it?

I work with very few people… Most of the year there are three of us. I offered to take Mondays and Tuesdays as my days off during my first summer, to be a nice person. That has translated into me never having a weekend off, ever. And if I do want to have even one weekend day off, because that’s how I can see out of town family, it’s pulling fucking teeth and SUCH an imposition. Because I take Mondays off, and most stat holidays are Mondays… I don’t get any. My boss uses pretty much all the PD budget so when I want to do a course or something (our industry is very pd-focused) I can’t. He didn’t even go to one of the conferences he was supposed to, he just took the week off and said he was sick. (Shitty timing, but he could have swapped me and my coworker out to take his place).

How’d you like to have to get in someone’s face to do their makeup when their breath reeks of booze and puke? Like, they didn’t even brush their teeth.

stephanie091512:  Omg that’s like my mother, she beats the shit out of her keyboard. She doesn’t think so! But yet she hates every computer brand because the keyboard keys start to fall off….. Lmao

I have a co worker who purposely ignores absolutely everyone, except the lady that does payroll (clever b****)!!! She walks by you like you don’t exist. To me that’s so rude….. At least say good morning you grumpy ass!!!!!!

I sit next to this older (or as we call it at my job, “more mature”) lady, and she is the most negative person ever. Whenever you think you’re going to come into work and possibly have a great day, as soon as she walks in she just starts complaining about work and it literally ruins your day because she never has anything even remotely positive to say. This is mildly funny, because I’m definitely not the most positive person at all, but if you’re so miserable, then LEAVE.

She complains about doing literally anything work related. And it’s not like it’s tasks that are outside of the scope of our job, it’s things that everyone here does every day.

Also, she gets so angry with people on the phone, like actually yells at them, when she’s the one who is wrong. Like, yeah we don’t technically work in a customer service department, but you don’t get to be down right rude to people when it’s not their fault that you’re overwhelmed by the normal tasks of your job.

UGH, rant over.

I used to sit next to a woman who huffed and puffed and swore at herself ALL DAY LONG. It was annoying.  She’d walk past my desk “f*** this place,” “f*** these people” “these f***ing a**holes!”  It was annoying and obnoxious.  I came here from an AWFUL job that I dreaded every day.  I like this job and I like this office.  If you hate your job go find another one.  This job is pretty laid back.  They reward us for doing good, let us leave early the day before a holiday, they’re OK with you coming in late because of an appointment if need be as long as you make up the time, they give us cake on our birthdays, etc.  It’s a pretty good deal.  I just hate miserable people.

ETA:  I swear like a sailor.  Just not at work.

BridetoBee2017:  It’s seriously the most annoying thing ever. Just do your job, or go home.
