Love Declan, especially since you are Irish, and it goes with your last name.

The only rory I know it the manliest man you could ever imagine. Full beard looks like a bear. I’m in th uk but I really like the name rory. Not keen on shane but declan is ok. Rory for the win though!

I think Rory or Declan goes best with your last name. Shane would be too rhyme-y IMO.

I am Aussie and know of only male Rorys apart from the tv show. And,  for his generation,  kids probably wont associate the name with the female character anyway.

For UK I definitely think Rory McIlroy but I DEFINITELY thought of Rory Gilmore first. Would be my last choice.

The other two names are good. I like both.

The only other thing I’d consider is the popularity of the names. My fiance and sister both have names that are so common, they each have best friends with the same name as them. My name, on the other hand isn’t “unusual” but also isn’t common enough that I knew other people with my name.

I like Rory…for a boy or a girl!  But since your last name is a single syllable, I would prefer the first name to be something with 2 or more.  I just like the flow better.  🙂  That’s just a weird preference though I guess!

I like Rory for a boy or a girl. Declan would be my second choice. Not a fan of Shane.

I dislike them all. Shane is the least disliked, but only superficially margionally.

Rory is used in Doctor Who for a male character. 🙂

valintine: Actually, if you check out the SSA popularity stats, you’ll find that Rory has not ever been, and is not now, more popular for girls than boys. I suppose it’s possible that it’s more common as a nickname for girls (Aurora is pretty dang popular), but as a stand-alone name, the data is clear: even in the US, Rory is still primarily a male name.

OP, I think Declan and Rory are both excellent choices. Shane is too much of a cowboy name to me, which is not at all my aesthetic. It also strikes me as more dated, since its popularity peaked in the ’70s and now it’s just on the decline.

I like Declan or Rory, both of which I think of as boys’ names first, despite the fact that I am a huge fan of Gilmore Girls and own every season on DVD. (After all, Rory in that show is just a nickname, not the character’s given name.)

I like Declan! I don’t particularly care for one syllable first and last names. They just sound strange to me.
