Hi Bees. I can’t believe I’m here again. Last month, I had a chemical pregnancy. Afterwards, I ovulated exactly two weeks later and we decided to give it one more go before moving to IVF. Well it worked … sort off.
The first test was taken at 12 dpo and we were elated. The next one taken at 13 dpo looked even more promising and was nice and dark. Now today’s test at 14 dpo looks lighter than yesterdays and the line is thinner. I’m so sad that this another chemical. The rollercoaster of emotions even just this morning has been awful. Does this look like a chemical to you? I need to hear some honest opinions so I can prepare for the worst if that’s indeed what it looks like. I’m having bets taken tomorrow and Wednesday but we probably won’t have results until Thursday.

the tests weren’t made for comparison or progression, and only betas will be 100% accurate at this early stage. If you are going to compare test lines, you should only compare tests 48 h apart (which would look quite promising in your case). There can be test or dilution variation if you are comparing daily, which will just increase early pregnancy anxiety. Good luck, it looks like you are pregnant right now!

While you can monitor overall decrease in HCG with at home tests, they are not designed to verify progress. I would wait for your betas before you start stressing about another chemical. I’m 8w6d today and my most current test was significantly lighter than the one prior. I’m still definitely pregnant.

they look the same to me, and they aren’t sunposed to look different except for every TWO days. If you compare the first and third, it’s a lot darker. Test again tomorrow and compare number 2 and 4.
You could also call your OB / RE and ask for HCG testing.
Fingers crossed for you!

I don’t feel like there’s enough to go on here. To me, the third test looks similar to yesterday’s – sometimes the line sort of blurs and “thickens” as it dries, I think that’s why the second one looks different. It’s also subtle enough that it could simply be a slight difference in the tests. And it would make sense for those two tests to be similar since it takes 48 hours for HcG to double.
FWIW, I had two early miscarriages and could see the progression (and decline) on pregnancy tests, so I’ve been there. I would still be optimistic given what today’s test looks like. I hope your betas bring peace of mind. Good luck!

They look great to me! I have tests from the last 3 days as well and they look very similar to yours! Yesterday’s and today’s look almost identical. The amount of dye in each test can vary as well. I have also had a chemical pregnancy before so I feel your anxiety. Although with my chemical the lunes never got this dark and faded very quickly. Stay optimistic!
edit- bottom was 4/30, middle 5/1, top 5/2

I voted too early to tell because these tests don’t look similar to how my tests from my chemical pregnancy looked and for my current pregnancy my progression wasn’t amazing on FRERs (but was still admittedly darker and much more convincing than my CP). I totally understand where you are coming from, especially after you had a CP last month, and it’s true that you should be able to see a progression on these tests, but that’s more likely to be the case after 48 hours than 24 hours. Even having said that, I felt like my progression on my FRERs for this pregnancy was just OK, not amazing looking, and the day of my first beta my HCG was pretty high but I barely had a dye-stealer (I was expecting something darker for that level of HCG, but I was clearly wrong).

couldn’t agree more, unfortunately as frustrating as it is these tests aren’t designed for comparisons and like you said can vary so much on dilution and other factors.
OP I think if you want to know for sure, maybe see your GP and get betas taken? I totally understand your worry and concerns though. Such an awful experience to go through. Hope this is a sticky baby for you.

I voted too early to tell.
I had a chemical last month and the first test I took was the strongest line and 2 days later it was fainter and a day later still faint so I knew it wasn’t going to progress.
The line on the test from today and yesterday looks very similar to me so it’s hard to say.. I wouldn’t say that the line today looks less strong than your line from yesterday…

Thank you everyone for your honesty and words of encouragement. As I was spiralling and going to the worst case scenario it was really helpful to read that many of you think that these tests are not really telling us anything at this point and that no real conclusion can be drawn about a negative outcome. TTC can be such a lonely journey – we have stopped talking to family & friends about it after our miscarriage last summer and recent chemical. It’s nice to be able to talk about it somewhere.
I had a beta taken this morning and will have another on Wednesday. Should have the results by Thursday. In the meantime, I’m going to try not to test anymore because I know if I do see the line getting lighter I will be so depressed.
I’ll update you all for better or worse when we know more.

Wishing you the best! I had heard about something called the “hook effect” so took a test pretty recently out of curiosity. My line was significantly lighter but I have had no symptoms of a loss (in fact my current symptoms have doubled). After a certain point, these tests cannot accurately give you results because the test cannot register your high HCG. My first appointment isn’t until 5/12 so now I’m just hoping for the best. Keep us updated!

hang in there ♥️ I really feel for you. I hope your second betas bear some good news. It’s such an isolating thing to not be able to share progress and concerns with people in your life, hopefully you get some good news and this is a rainbow for you. We are all rooting for you!

I have an update – and it’s a happy one!!!
The clinic emailed with my beta results from this week. Monday morning my hcg level was 276 and by Wednesday morning it was 704!!! They said it was a great rise and have booked me in for an early ultrasound at 7 weeks.
What a wild few days it’s been trying to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I am now going to officially RELAX. I know we have a long journey ahead and things could still take a turn, but for right now, I’m pregnant! So happy to have another chance at our take home baby after many long and sad months of disappointment.
Thanks for the posts and positive vibes this week. It was nice to know that a group of people knew what we were going through and were rooting for us!

Congrats! I’m late to the thread and I was about to say that the progress looked normal to me. Glad that the betas verified
