- Wedding: June 2019
I see people talking about their engagement stories and I just wanted to gush about mine because it was just so perfect 🙂 I’m so thrilled to be engaged to my man!! After almost four years of dating in a tough long-distance military relationship, we feel so victorious. If we can survive what we’ve survived, we can survive anything!
In July 2017 he began asking me what ring styles I like. Marriage was a conversation we had started having by that point, but I figured that if he would propose, it would be around Christmas time, because that would be before he left for deployment training (he’s going overseas this summer). I figured it was a pretty romantic way to start that rough time in our lives.
But that’s not when he proposed at all! I was completely clueless up until the end!
October 1st of 2017 was our anniversary, but because of the whole military lifestyle, we couldn’t celebrate until October 6th. On that day, his mother and stepfather were visiting my parents, and my parents’ living room is arranged in a sort of semi-circle in front of the television. My man organized everyone to sit down, and asked me to stand in front of the television, and handed me a card.
He is a sensitive, caring romantic, so I should have had some sort of inkling, but I was 100% clueless. I’m a family-centered person by nature, and he knew that. He knew that my perfect proposal would be involving family. And boy, he played me like a fiddle! I was CLUELESS!
He made me read the card out loud in front of everyone.
Now that I look back I realize I was just STUPID. All the signs were there. But I thought we were just celebrating our aniversary. At the end of the card he told me to look behind me, and there he was, kneeling with the ring. Everyone in the room knew but me because he had asked my dad a few days earlier.
Apparently my littlest sister was crying but I never noticed. I would have definitely known if I had seen her crying.
When I saw the ring, I threw the card in the air and fell to my knees in front of him, kissing him and sobbing. I didn’t even say yes right away – I was too busy trying to process everything that was happening (plus my whole family was in tears which I had never experienced before). My mom finally hollered, laughing, “Well are you saying yes or not??” And of course I said yes!
But that’s what happened, right in my parents’ living room in front of my family, and it’s a moment I will never forget.
Below are a couple pictures of the ring – the simple solitaire I asked for!
But anyway, yes, that’s my story 🙂 We are thrilled and excited for a June 2019 wedding!
