So, Dear Fiance and I are based in the UK and get married next August. We want a fab honeymoon but don’t know where to go.
We are ruling our Europe as its on our doorstep and we want our honeymoon to be a once in a lifetime trip. We have already been to Thailand, so that is out. India and places near there= rainy season. Caribbean is not for us (I go to Barbados every winter in any case). We don’t fancy Oz/ NZ.
We are picky. We don’t want a cruise. We don’t like big resorts. I have a big mouth and have bee-tched about how everybody goes to Mauritus or the Maldives and we don’t want to be like everybody else (problem is now I really want a bungalow over the sea with a plunge pool). We know we don’t want to go somewhere where everybody is on their honeymoon (eg Mauritus or the Maldives). We like small cool hotels.
We do know that we want a multicentre holiday. We want to go for about 14-18 days and have some cool city stuff, maybe a few days with nature and about 5-6 days at a relaxing beachy type place.
Places we have thought about include
- Brazil- Dear Fiance LOVES this idea, Rio, Manaus, a beach and some Amazonian jungle coolness
- Japan- Both like this.
- Africa- although Dear Fiance likes this idea more than I do because I think once you have done a safari and sat on a beach, what else do you do? Plus the place in Mozambique that I like the look of is $6000 (yes, there are meant to be three 0’s there) a night!
- San Fran, Cali wine regions and Hawaii (although is this once in a lifetime or could we do it when we are older and with kids).
- Bora Bora- I LOVE the look of this, however what do you combine it with. It really is in the middle of nowhere, so far away from the UK and all the places I like are about $1000 a night.
So help us think of more exciting , cool exciting ideas!

I was going to suggest Brazil or Australia. I loved Brazil and there was a lot to do in the capital. My fi been to Australia and had a blast and you can do a lot of things in your qualification.
Japan is a place we both wanna visit, but not for a honeymoon, in my opinion.
And, fi would not recommend Africa. He did not enjoy his trip.

From looking at your comments, the only place that you both LIKE is Japan. All the rest, one likes it better than the other. I’d vote Japan. It’s great there and I’ve loved all my trips there.

Sound to me like you should go somewhere in the south pacific. Have you considered Fiji? or the Cook Islands? They have the beach feel, they are super remote, they have exclusive resorts, and for the price, you can only do it once in this lifetime! 🙂

Japan sounds amazing! What about New Zealand?

We are doing Chile and Argentina. In Chile/Argentina there are tons of beautiful small hotels and lakes, mountains, wineries, beaches, cities. pretty much everything you could want. Brazil would also be amazing and I would love to go to Africa.

As you probably know, Africa is an extremely diverse continent. I have traveled extensively there…many once in a lifetime things to do but as per this suggestion, I would need to know what you want to do.

What about combining the Napa Valley / Northern California idea with Alaska? You would be able to go to San Francisco, LOTS of vinyards, Seattle, Vancouver, maybe a 4-5 day cruise off the coast of Alaska, whale watching. You’d still have your beach time in Cali and maybe be able to have new experiences for both of you to share!
Have fun planning!

What about Bali? That is FI’s and my top choice. We were also considering Belize, which also has a good mix of what you’re looking for (maybe minus the big city part): beach for a few days, then jungles/Mayan ruins for a few days.

Any place in latin america would fit your bill. I also heard Israel and Egypt are also pretty kewl with the history and beach options. Canada/alaska is beautiful too but water there may too cold for your beach experience.
