Would love to hear some answers for this, I have curly hair and have been wondering about the keratin treatment at home for a while now. I know brazillian blow-out can only be done at salons and it contains “bad” chemicals, I think formaldehyde, but supposedly it can get your hair pin straight. I’m mostly concerned about frizz…what brand of keratin treatment did you get?

I use Coppola keratain. The first few weeks your hair will be pretty straight. The only time your hair is pin straight is the first 72 hours. You can def scrunch your hair and curl it and it will hold. As more time passes since the service more and more of your your tighter curl and frizz will come back and at that point you will know it’s time for another keratin

I have the brazilian blow out done every 6 months. I had curly hair and now it is really nice and straight. I had frizzy curls and now its not fizzy at all. I don’t have any curl left in my hair though and even if I gel and scrunch, it doesn’t bring back my curls. Also, when I used a curling iron in my curly hair, it would hold forever, now my straightened hair doesn’t hold curls/styling very well at all.  It used to take me forever to do my hair and now I get out of the shower, quickly blow dry my hair and its perfect. The part that grows out over the 6 months between treatments does curl a bit at the roots but blow drying fixes it easily. The treatment I get is with keratin and supposedly it doesn’t have formaldehyde or other harmful chemicals.

I am a stylist and the salon that I work at carries the GK keratin treatment.  It comes in three different levels…The first is a 20 minute “mini” treatment and last 4-6 shampoos and calms frizzies (runs $20).  The second is a medium treatment.  Lasts 6 months or more and calms frizzies while keeping curl (if you’re a curly girl and want to keep curl but calm down the crazy stuff!) The third is the intense treatment and also lasts 6 months.  This one completely straightens the hair.  Both of those run $200.  My suggestion is find a salon in your area that carries this product (it’s what they use on the tv show Jerseylicious).  It’s the best keratin treatment I’ve worked with.  : )

I use Keratin shampoo and conditioner, but I have straight hair. It’s worked really well for me, though–really eliminates frizz, and my hair is shimmery. My split ends are better too. I use Andre Walker Peace. 🙂

@Mrsgurzakovic:  I have never worked with that brand, so I don’t know too much about it.  I do know that Pravana carries a pretty good keratin treatment too.  : )  Good luck finding one that works for you!

You might also want to look on YouTube for examples of people who used the product.

In case you haven’t heard about this, I’d be very careful about “Brazilian blowout” treatments – the active ingredient (the one that straightens your hair and makes it look shiny) is formaldehyde: http://nomoredirtylooks.com/tag/brazilian-blowout/ Apparently there have been issues with companies lying about the ingredients in their products, so that salons and stylists don’t even know what’s in them. I’d choose a keratin treatment instead.
