How early is too early. The wedding is in May, it’s a semi destination wedding in that the majority of guests will need to make travel arrangements to get here. When should I send the STD’s? That is a long weekend here in Canada – Victoria Day.

Send them anytime now! People like to plan ahead and get it on their calendar. This is a good amount of time in advance.

Usually I’d say about six months out. However, because it’s a semi-destination wedding and because six months out puts you in the middle of the holiday rush, I’m thinking earlier. I’d say anytime between now and late October would be good!

@MsGinkgo: I voted for ASAP. People need time to plan for it. They need to check their calendars and their bank accounts to see if they can take the time off and afford the trip. Giving them notice now allows more to be able to save up or rearrange their plans so they can afford to go.

i would send them 9-12 months in advance for a Destination Wedding. so send them now.

my gut says send them ASAP – at least to the out of town people. I know I like to KNOW that I’m invited so I can start to plan. I’ve had people suggest that i’ll be invited and been kept waiting and waiting for an invite or STD. I actually might be missing a wedding in September because I still don’t KNOW that I’m invited and I had to go an book my travel for another wedding already that will mean I won’t be in town for the wedding in question.

I’d probably send them about 6 months in advance but it wouldn’t hurt to give people more notice.
About half of our guests will need to fly or make a really long drive to our wedding. We sent our save the dates out about 5 months in advance.
