@Tbblount:  We are also interested in traveling to Turkey on a trip next year, but we’re concerned about the Syrian refugee situation in the country. Do you have any advice related to that to share?

My travel agent told me to avoid Turkey right now because of all of the turmoil in the area, which a PP stated. We were debating on going on an Easter Mediterranean cruise but were adviced against it.

I went around 2 years ago for a wedding, not to a resort.

However, it’s a popular tourist destination for Europeans (Germans, English, Australians, Russians) and situated right next to the Mediterranean. Very sunny. Very hot. It’s a big city and not close to the Syrian border. I think you should be fine.

If you have time, you’re close to Fethiye which is another really gorgeous town near the mediterranean. My fiancee’s sister is going there this Sunday. Here is a blog of an expat living there now: http://www.turkeysforlife.com/
