Hi there – we honeymooned in Antigua and loved it. The beaches are the main attraction, so I would not rec if you plan on doing a lot of activities. We stayed at a sleepy, but beautiful all-inclusive called Cocobay. The reviews raved about the food, which I thought was pretty good. Dinenr and breakfast was great, lunch was a not great. The prices on the island are compreable to US cities and they accept US dollars everywhere. Also, we thought the people were wonderful and we never felt like we were getting ripped off or anything.

My extended family is from Antigua, so yes I have been there. For my sister’s wedding in fact!

It was great; Nelson’s Dockyard, on the opposite side or away from St. Johns is where we stayed. I enjoyed being in a more local area than the touristy on in St. Johns, mostly because of the difference in cost and atmosphere. First off, its much more relaxed (Half Moon Bay, and the beaches around Nelson’s Dockyard, and its Marina) all are far more secluded. Half Moon Bay is the most beautiful beach on the entire island. Also, sample the Cavalier Rum, and go to the Antiguan Distillery there for sight seeing. There are alot of wonderful historical sites, and the people at Nelson’s Dockyard (my sister’s Father-In-Law runs the place) will be happy to point them out to you.

The Catamarian (mispelled I think) is the hotel where many guests of the wedding stayed. I think they have packages. Again its a great island, one of the safest in the West Indies, and its close to many islands by boat, so you can take day trips

I hope that helps!
