I have not stayed at either yet, but for our honeymoon we’ll be going to St. Lucia so I’ve done a little bit of looking.  I know Jade Mountain is sooooo expensive, but there is something of a cheaper alternative to it at http://www.ladera.com/ !  Just like J.M. every room has a private plunge pool and a 3rd open wall.  Take a look if those things are what attracted you!

As an aside, why don’t you guys want to stay at a Sandals?  We are actually staying at Sandals Grande in St. Lucia so I’m curious 🙂

My brother and SIL stayed at Sandals in St. Lucia and loved it. That’s about all the info I have on it, sorry. I would love to go to Antigua though! I think no matter what you pick it will be an amazing honeymoon 🙂

Lol, Travel Nut here…

These islands are very very different geographically, historically and culturally … and so that may play a part in which you pick.

St Lucia is very much a hilly rain forest (most mountainous island in the Caribbean).  It has an area of aprox 238 Sq Miles and a Population of aprox 175,000 (or 672 / Sq Mile)

Antigua is far more cosmopolitan and offers a greater mix of things to see and do.  It has an area of aprox 108 Sq Miles and a Population of aprox 80,000 (or 738 / Sq Mile)

Both islands are very nice (I will be there myself on my own Honeymoon Cruise).  It really is going to be about WHAT you want to do on your vacation.

As always, whenever I see a Question like this on the WBee HONEYMOON BOARD I suggest that you check out some websites and do some reading, so you can figure out which seems more suited to you.

Wikipedia is a good resource for a general overview of things (and nice cause you can easily “click around” to learn more stuff… on whatever peaks your interest).

As well both countries will also have their own Official Tourism Websites.

And TripAdvisor is invaluable because it offers up many things beyond just Reviews (altho those are very important for knowing about Hotels & Resorts, Restaurants & Things To Do).  TA also has a decent Travel Guide Section (or think about buying a Travel Guide from a Bookstore for the Caribbean… a good investment, as it’ll have tons of info in it and can easily fit into your Knapsack or Daybag when out exploring the Island).  As well TA has Discussion Boards like we have here on WBee (they call them Forums) where you can post Questions and chat with locals and others who know the Destinations best.  Great way to get good solid first-hand info… be it from posting a Question, or just reading regularly what other topics are being discussed.

Hope this helps,

Where would you go in late June/early July…or would you hold off on a honeymoon till later in the year?

TO peachacid:  lol… Where in the world is Waldo ??

Sorry couldn’t resist… your Question is just a tad too general… what would you like to see / do ?

Summer is a great time to explore most of the USA (especially the northern bits… like New England – Great Lakes Region – and the mid-west to west… fantastic National Parks to be found in South Dakota Black Hills, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Washington State etc).  Also awesome for Alaska.

Great for Canada… actually this is the best time to see us… July & August as we do have a very short good weather summer… everything is OPEN and we aren’t quite so hot as much of the USA… unless you are in our bigger cities, everywhere tends to have a cooling breeze.

Summer is also ideal for Europe…

Anyways… you get the idea… lots to pick from.  Need to know more about what interests you.

Maybe knowing too where you are now… might be helpful.  So I know what sort of thing would be “the norm” for you come summertime (so you could explore outside the box)

Hope this helps,

I have only been to St. Lucia but I just wanted to pop in and express how much I loved it there! The island is incredibly beautiful with a rich culture.

Jalousie is the beach between the two pitons and is amazing. There is a huge snorkling area right there off the beach that is awesome.

We were only there for a day (cruise) so I can’t help you with resort suggestions… but I can’t say enough goodthings about St. Lucia!

I just have to say st Lucia is amazingWe’re got engaged there in July 2011 up at the ladera resort and it couldn’t have been more amazing. Everyone at the resort was beyond amazing and accommodating.we were only there as part of our island tour for lunch but they worked with my fiancé to set up a romantic lunch for us, created an adorable congratulations card for me and also gave our whole tour group a bottle of champagne to share with our whole tour group to celebrate on the house. They then gave us and our tour group a tour of the resort they were just amazing if we ever go back that is definitely where would stay its beyond beautiful!!

Btw we were there for two weeks and never ran out of things to do, we definitely did a lot of beach relaxing but there are also so many fun things to do as well. We met some great people on our sunset cruise and ended up going out in Rodney bay that night and it was so much fun! It has so much to offer!
