@klovesd:  I don’t have any recommendations, but I’ve heard a few bad stories about Curtis Raymond… so you might want to avoid him as a DJ.

I’ve also heard bad things about Matt McGrath – Xtreme Soundzz DJ Service in Eastern Ontario. Not sure about any good ones though…

I had to share this with everyone else from Ottawa. I’m a huge hockey fan, and I think I might have just found my entrance to the reception song.

Can’t you just picture it: “Your starting lineup this evening includes ….”

Ok I’m done now πŸ™‚

I’m an Ottawa bride! I just wanted to say hi.  I’ll be getting married at the Chateau Cartier on September 28th 2013.  They have a beautiful little gazebo out on the Golf course. I sure hope that we have a beautiful fall day and can make use of it.

Hello I’m an Ottawa Bride as well, but we are getting married in Hawaii.

But we will have an after party in Ottawa hopefully in early 2014. We won’t need a big banquest hall, but we would like to rent a nice restaurant for dinner or brunch.

i’m sort-of an Ottawa bride – I live in Toronto now but my home town is Ottawa, and my parents AND fiance still live there (been doing long distance for a bit). My wedding is in the mediteranean but alot of the prep is being done on visits to Ottawa. I was going to get a La Sposa gown but I changed my mind at the wedding palace bridal show last week and now thinking of getting something custom made in Ottawa.

If I WERE to get married in/around Ottawa, I would consider the Wakefield Inn (about 30 mins out of Ottawa,in Gatineau)…its a gorgeous setting for photos. I was considering them for my engagement party…

@klovesd:  I will be using Pulse entertainment, specifically Daniel. I live in Winnipeg and my wedding is in Ottawa (my family is there, my fiance is military). So my mom and aunt went to a couple wedding shows in Ottawa for me, to check out vendors. Originally we were thinking Quality entertainment for DJ becuase that was the only name we had heard. However at the wedding show they were too busy talking among themselves to even give my mom or aunt the time of day. Apparently there were multiple DJ’s/sales reps manning the booth and they were all chatting among themselves. My mom went up to the table and picked up a pamphlet to show her interest but they never stopped chatting with eachother so she walked away. When she went up to Pulse entertainment, Daniel was manning the booth and speaking with another guest of the show but said he’d be with my mother shortly. My mom and aunt told me what had happened and said they felt confident in Daniel and really liked his personality. He also has great prices. πŸ™‚

@Mulan05:

I’m not sure if you booked your photographer but if not we’re using Rob Whelan (saw his name mentioned in an earlier post). I find his prices quite reasonable especially for the amount of time he will provide. He also has a photobooth option that is afforadable. Something I thought I could never afford but it came with the package. πŸ™‚

He’s been great to deal with, very quick to respond to emails and calls.

@Jan_2014:  Thanks for your reply! I also went to that wedding show and had the opportunity to speak with Daniel and he seems fantastic! I had been at a wedding the week prior to the show, and they had Quality Entertainment there. Brutal. The problem with their company is that they are so big, you have no idea who they are going to give you! This guy was older, grumpy and played some bizarre stuff. I find Pulse’s prices a bit steep, but I’m finding other places to save, because like your mom, I got such a great vibe from him.

Btw, I also considered Rob Whelan for photography. He’s super friendly and seems like he’ll be very easy to work with. I ended up going with another photographer, but I’m sure we would have been very happy with him.

In terms of photographers, we decided to go with Mark Cooper Photographers.  While Mark specifically won’t be shooting our wedding, he works extremely close with his photographers and the photos are incredible.  Our package includes a main shooter from 8:30am-10:30pm, a second shooter to follow the boys up until the first dance, and all photos, processed and edited, on a DVD as well as an online gallery (about 1000).  All this for $2500 taxes in!   Although I haven’t gotten married yet, I highly recommend so far!

Hi guys! I am an Ottawa bride, we are getting married October 5th, 2013. We have our venue booked, and I am currently trying to tackle caterer and band/DJ bookings. If anyone has suggestions for those vendors, that would be great! I’m also trying to come up with decor ideas, I am being really stubborn against set colours and don’t want to fall into a cliche of red, brown, and yellow (pun intended!)

@ljd176:  strongly recommend South African Connexion –http://www.southafricanconnexion.ca/en/index.php

We went out on a limb with them as we didn’t have the time to go for a tasting.  We had TONS of compliments on the food…our best man even admitted he snuck back 4 times for more.

Price was very reasonable at $27/person and there was SOOO much food left over.

Hi,

I was wondering, does anyone have any recommendations for a limo company? I’m thinking about getting one for logistical purposes on the day, but not too sure of prices or which one is good. Do limo companies quote by the hour? km? I know nothing lol.

Thanks!

Our venue has a list of 5 carefree they deal with, so I am waiting for quotes from Tulips and Maple, Thyme and Again, as well as a quote already received from Bytown Catering. Has anybody worked with these vendors?

@Mulan05 I am also wondering about limos!! I feel like they jack up their prices for wedding packages, I am tempted to ask for service by the hour and not mention it’s my wedding at all, see what information they give me πŸ™‚

@ljd176:  Are you by chance getting married at a museum? The only reason I ask is, we are, and had the same list of 5 caterers. We chose Bytown Catering, but didn’t get quotes from anyone else since their price seemed good to start. That, and my office has them caterer customer meetings sometimes, so I’d sampled the food and knew I liked it.

I e-mailed one company about limos (forget the name right now, but I can look again), and they said they offer for weddings packages with 4 hours of service. It annoys me a little because what I really think we need is 2 hours of service total.
