In my personal experience, there was no way to keep from getting my hopes up. I just tried to keep my mind off of it as much as possible. Maybe make all the gifts for everyone on your list so you have lots of crafting to get through? Read a new book? Find a new TV series to get lost in on Netflix? Bakes lots of cookies for everyone in your life (mailman, hairdresser, regular barista, ect.) Just try not to worry, what will be will be. Whether or not you get engaged for Christmas you still love him. A ring on your finger doesn’t mean your commitment is any more or less legitimate.

@HaleyBOOMS:  I’m in the same boat as you! I, too, am hoping for a proposal && I love elephants as well! I also agree with PP in that you should focus on the reason for the season…and not getting a proposal is not the end of the world, or your relationship. Maybe he’ll be planning it for a time that means more to the two of you OR you’re definitely getting it at Christmas!

I am in the same position.  Someone on here told me to assume it’s not happening and try and convince yourself that it is happening at a later date…say Februrary.  That way in your head you are psyching yourself up for Feb, and if it happens sooner it will be a nice surprise!

Oh my goodness HaleyBlooms, you sound like my twin! My boyfriend and I have been together for four years on the 27th Dec, I know he wouldnt do a Christmas proposal….BUT he is taking me away for the night on the 27th.

Usually I would have no reason to get my hopes up…but the history in his iPad showed he had looked up ‘The Diamond Guys’ (which is an Australian company that specifically helps guys with engagement rings), which I looked beyond and didnt really think about it until he bought up a ring convo the other day…telling me he was scared he would pick the wrong ring, but he didnt want me to help, just wanted to know what colour (yellow or white gold) and told me to think no more about….UMMMM IMPOSSIBLE!

But I feel like he isnt organised enough for it to happen on our anniversary yet I can’t help but get excited 🙁 HaleyBlooms I totally understand!!

Yep…in the same boat here too! So hoping for a proposal  but the closer it gets to Christmas the more doubts I have. He hasn’t asked me for my Christmas wishes till today because he went shopping today and pretended over the phone he still didn’t get my present.

I decided to focus on other things: get the laundry done, clean the house, walk the dog. Anything that keeps me away from browsing jewelry stores on the internet and dreaming how my ring might look.

Honestly, it sounds promising. At four years, if it isn’t a ring, they really shouldn’t be making jokes like that!

But you know, as long as you guys are on the same page and there continues to be forward progress, I wouldn’t worry too much about it, or be too disappointed. Just go into the holidays thinking “A Christmas proposal would be wonderful, but so would a New Year’s Eve proposal. A Valentine’s proposal would be so romantic, and early spring would be beautiful with all the flowers in bloom”. Something tells me you won’t have to think any further ahead than that. Keep us posted!
