@PositiveThinking:  I feel ya girl.

Fiance and I are still in college. I’ll be graduating this year with a grad degree. But he has another year and a half of undergrad left.

We have lots of student loan debt. We currently rent in a cute little town, but plan on moving back to our hometown in a few years and would love to buy a house.

We really want to live in the country, on lots of acreage, in a beautiful old farmhouse. No one rents properties like that. So hopefully after a couple years of working we’ll have some money saved up and be able to buy a house.

I hate renting. It’s certainly nice not having to pay for repairs, etc. I want to make personal touches to the house, but I refuse to throw money into a house that I don’t own.

Sigh.

@PositiveThinking:  My Fiance and I rent an apartment and we will likely stay there for at least another 2 years.  Owning a home is expensive!  The taxes, utilities, etc are too much!  Our student loans are too high, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we are renting for years to come.

I was originally flat-out against having kids in an apartment setting, but I’m opening up to the idea now.  I think its the only way I’d have kids in my early 30s.

we’re renting now.  we could buy a house in our area, but we’re not planning on staying here long-term, and I’m worried about having to eventually sell the house – its a buyer’s market out here, and the property taxes are tremendously high.  there is no shame in renting – with the current housing market, owning a home doesn’t necessarily guarantee a secure financial future.

I don’t see Fiance and I ever owning a house, and that’s just fine by me.  I’m going into academia and I’m still in graduate school (forever, I swear), and we have to be really mobile once I’m done with my PhD.  Unless I end up on tenure track at a school outside of a major metro area, I doubt we’re ever going to be the kind of people who live somewhere for more than two or three years.  And frankly, it doesn’t bother me.  I’m watching my parents run themselves into the ground trying to do maintenance on the house where I grew up, a three bedroom ranch house in the sticks, and it’s just not for me.  I’d rather be able to call someone to fix my pipes or have someone else shovel my snow.  I’m in my early 30s, I know a lot of people settling into home ownership, and it just has minimal appeal.  Renting suits us and our lifestyle, and if earning multiple advanced degrees doesn’t make me an adult, then I doubt a mortgage payment would do any more on that front.
