Oooh I am interested in the responses too! I can’t decide if we should go with Riviera Maya or Cancun…we are really leaning to the Secrets resorts since they are all inclusive and adults only!

Hi- definitely go to tripadvisor and check out your resort.  You do have to take some of the nasty reviews with a grain of salt but they can give you an honest review of the resort.

My resort did have some cons but I knew those when I booked. We stayed at Secrets Silversands and from what I hear, it is one of the more affordable Secrets resorts in Cancun.  From trip advisor, people have complained about the beach.  Secrets Silversands is located in Puerto Morelos and this area has been known to have rocks on beaches.  So it can be a little annoying to swim in.  My Darling Husband and I both knew this so we took aqua socks with us.  It’s not a perfect beach but everything on the resort was.  The price we paid was amazing and it was definitely in our budget.  Yes, if I had another $500 to spend, I would go to Secrets Capri or Marmora but all and all, I am very happy with the resort I picked.  I saw some pictures of the other Secrets resorts and it looks like they have only one or two pools.  Silversands has at least 4-5 pools, so you could choose what type of atmosphere you wanted, whether you wanted noisy or quiet.  All of the secrets resorts staff are extremely nice and will do anything for you.

As for the food, it was really good.  Room service was great.  As with mexico, I always hear people say don’t drink the water.  Yes, they do give you bottled water to drink but it’s kind of hard to get away from being exposed to ‘their’ water.  They used it to make food, wash veggies, fruits and make ice.  My tummy did rumble a few times but I made sure to bring tums, imodium, pepto and all sorts of medicines, just to be safe. Plus, I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it at the store in the resort.  Unfortunately, my Darling Husband was more affected by it.  He was out for at least a day. 🙁  But what is he going to do?  Not eat anything at an all inclusive?  His tummy did end up getting used to it and he did have to prep his tummy before he ate anything just so he wouldn’t waste a day, if he did get sick.

In the end, we had an amazing time and I wouldn’t change a thing.  Well, I wish my DH’s tummy wasn’t as sensitive as it was… haha.  He said he would love to go to this resort again.  It was extremely affordable.

As with the reviews, you have to take it with a grain of salt sometimes.  There are sometimes people who go there expecting everything to be perfect. Our trip was perfect but I didn’t have high standards because this was my first trip to Cancun and my first trip to an all inclusive.  My Darling Husband has been to Jamaica all inclusive and he said Silversands was definitely a better resort.  I read trip advisor about once a week before going, so I would read recent reviews.  I learned from what people complained about and tried to bring things that would take that negativity and make it positive.

Here is my post. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/our-amazing-honeymoon-to-cancun-secrets-silversands

As you can see, I had an amazing time. We were both really sad to leave. Definitely trying to go back next year.
