Do you or the bass player in your life use a pick when they play?
ETA: I’m asking because I came across this pick punch device and I wanted to buy it as a Christmas gift it to my teenage nephew (who is a new-ish bass player)… but wasn’t sure if he used picks. I tried asking his mom, but she wasn’t sure… Do you think it’s something a bass player would use/get a kick out of? http://www.pickpunch.com/

I play ukulele, we use the same kind of picks made for bass. I prefer leather picks, but really it’s about the kind of sound you want.

Darling Husband always uses his fingers except for a few select songs.

I use a pick sometimes, but mostly no. Picks sound really clean, but fingers just feel better.

My dad plays the bass and sometimes he uses a pick and sometimes not. It depends on the type of music he is playing. It’s considered “old school” to play with a pick. When I played the bass I always used a pick because I like the way that it sounds and it made my playing more unique.
