taffeta is stiff and noisy. i’ll be ordering taffeta table linens, but i would never wear it. it wrinkles like crazy too.

silk shantung would probably be what you’re looking for, fabric wise.

Taffeta is characteristically stiff.  However, it can be made out of silk or synthetic materials, so that might affect how flowy it is.  I haven’t compared them side by side, so I’m not sure.  Just like satin (which can be high quality silk, high quality synthetics, or low quality synthetics), they can really be all over the board, so it’s a good thing you got a sample!

MrsUPS:  This could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that the better the taffeta, the stiffer it is in that it stays together when scrunched.

I had a cheap David’s Bridal taffeta dress and everybody, including the person that steamed it, said it would get wrinkled right away (the steamer really talked my fiance through it before she did it because she didn’t want us getting angry with the charge).  But, after it was steamed, it didn’t hold a wrinkle at all. I mean seriously–I spent hours in the dress, went swimming in the ocean with it, spent hours more in it, then it spent a couple of days in a heap on the hotel floor. Picked it up, still wrinkle-free (can’t wait to take it out of the suitcase to see if it still is).

So, it could have been the cheap material, but my experience was that, after it is steamed, it stays wrinkle free!
