I live in Atlanta; north of Buckhead.  I’m having my wedding in South Florida but I’m looking for a good seamstress in Atlanta.

This is completely unrelated to wedding planning, but I’m looking at moving to the ATL area.  What’s your opinion on Forsyth county, Dawsonville, Buford, Sugar Hill, or Suwanee?

smilestorm:  I’m biased because I’m originally from the city, but my favorite areas include:

-Virginia-Highlands/ Morningside (where I live)

-Midtown

-Downtown Decatur

-Brookhaven

-Roswell

-Sandy Springs

-Vinings

What kind of environment are you looking for? I might be able to make better suggestions ๐Ÿ™‚

TheLadyA:  I’m in a suburb right now with lots of conveniences and good schools but not a lot of traffic.  If possible I’d like to be somewhere that has city codes about buildings and landscape and stuff to keep the area nice (think medians with landscaping) and good schools…but not badly congested.  I like to be like 10 minutes or less from grocery stores/target/michael’s, etc.

smilestorm:  I feel like everywhere has horrible traffic down here! Check out Roswell, johns creek, and Alpharetta. They are all suburban areas with great schools, but not quite as far north as the places you mentioned. Buford, Suwannee, and flowery branch are nice too, and have a small town kind of feel.

smilestorm:  EVERYWHERE in the ATL has traffic! LOL… Although I would say depending on where you work stay away from the top end. My son went to school in Sandy Springs and it took an hour and a half to get home each night where on the weekends I could get there in about 25 minutes! I live on the westside of Atlanta. There are a lot of nice areas but its definitely more suburban feel. My son goes to GA Tech so we go downtown a lot and I love it downtown just couldn’t deal with traffic unless I lived near my work. Good thing about the west side is I-20 traffic (on the west side) is much better than 285, 400 and 75/85.  I like the Powder Springs, Marietta, Hiram area. Lots of Targets and Michaels LOL. I like Douglasville OK but it is getting a little too congested. The mall traffic at Christmas is ridiculous!

kellijo13:  Hahah! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks traffic is crazy. Luckily I don’t ever have to drive to far and my Fiance drives against the traffic to and from norcross (thank god!).

smilestorm:  No problemo! I agree with Kelli that Marietta is a good place to check out too ๐Ÿ™‚

FutureMrsDinATL:  Agree. Suwanee is far from country. I would consider Buford, Sugar Hill and Suwanee the suburbs. Gwinnett county has the best schools in the state and we’re actually house hunting in those 3 areas. You get more bang for your buck with houses too!
