I’m curious about this too, I’ve seen them done at some weddings I’ve been too and I’ve always wondered if they’re worth it.

We plan on doing one, it is pretty much expected in my area to do one.  Besides this also gives Fiance and I time to speak with our guests as they dance with us.

You just opened up a can!

My thoughts? Who cares what other people do. If you find it “tacky” well then perhaps it’s time for look at yourself in the mirror and ask why you’ve let that stick get too far up your ass.

I was engaged before to a Polish guy and it’s Polish tradition to have the money dance. Even if I didn’t want it, it would have happened. It’s expected.

I’ve been to weddings with them and weddings without them. No one got up from their seat and marched out of the reception because of a money dance. If you don’t want to participate then don’t. Simple as that.

The Money Dance is huge in my family- but I’m really torn on it. I have a lot of friends that are not at all familiar with it for one, and I know they can just sit out of it, it’s just I don’t like it that much either lol

I’m a huge dancer and take the Barney approach from HIMYM and think that a party should be “all rise”. I want my guests out there dancing up a storm and I feel like the money dance slows it down and takes up so much time.

I don’t think it’s tacky though, it’s not like you’re requiring guests to do it- just following tradition.

We’re not having one but my aunt and uncle had a dollar dance at their wedding 17 years ago and they made a few grand. Of course it helped that a lot of people paid upwards of $50-$100 PER dance. Craziness!

We did it! Every wedding I’ve been to has done it so we did and I’m glad we did. I got a lot of one on one time with my guest and I got some great pics from it. As to the money…my dj did a competition to see if I or dh won. I made like 220 and dh like 60 (poor guy :P) so we made like 280 (not that we did it only for the money but since you asked :))

@Tessemasgirl: My cousin had one at her 30 person wedding and made $200.

What is the money dance? I have never seen this at a wedding. Is it Polish as someone above mentioned. How does it work, though.. somehow you get money for dancing with your guests?

We did it as Polish tradition, and made about $300, with $100 of it being from my Father-In-Law 🙂

I actually find it upsetting that so many people do it just as a way to make money, when in certain cultures its a tradition, and that is the only time it should be done IMO
