We seriously considered it, but ended up choosing against it in the end.
We are planning to go in the next year, though, because it’s a great destination, but after doing some research, thought it would not be the best for the wedding.

We had guests that never ever travelled before, and Costa Rica has lots of insects and stuff that does not bother us, but we had to think about the guests. Also, it’s a very cool trekking/adventure destination, but the beaches, not so much (or, not as much as in the caribbean).

As for the wedding itself, I have read many reviews from people saying that they never received their marriage certificate after coming back, so they had to go to a JOP to make the thing legal after realizing that they would not be getting their paperwork – stress that I did not want to have to deal with.

So, I’m definitely not saying not to go there, but these are two things to consider when you weigh the pros and cons.

Good luck! Oh, and I wish you the best with your planning – Destination Wedding are fantastic!

I have an aunt and uncle that actually LIVE in costa rica. My family went there for xmas (I couldn’t go, I was working) but these are the things I learned.
1) Lots of bugs! Creepy, Large, and sometimes dangrous bugs everywhere. Also lots of snakes and monkeys.
2) It isn’t overly tourist-y. They have a couple of nice beaches but mostly the country is getting really into eco-tourist stuff. Like my family apparently toured a villiage where they make coco and they were knee deep in mud and other stuff…, they did go to a hot spring but it wasn’t the ritz…lets put it that way.
3) Things are expensive there if you don’t actually LIVE there. My family was paying american prices for their hotels and tourist things.

My family loved it but they are really into eco-tourism things. Also the fact that they were visiting my aunt and uncle who we haven’t seen in a couple of years. My aunt who went though said that next time just her and my uncle are going to visit just because it was SO expensive.
