I have a 2 year old cat that has a chronic cold (rhinotracheitis) and I love him so much. He gets lysine supplements every day to lower the viral load, and it works really well. However, recently he has been sneezing more, and sometimes there’s even a bit of blood 🙁 I’m keeping my place humid enough, and giving him plenty of attention, but i’d really like to make him better. He’s still super playul. There’s no treatment for the virus so I usually just wait for the flare up to pass.
Any tips that would help my lovely kitty?

My mom’s cat has either this or something very similar. She is always sneezing and congested, and my mom gives her lysine treats- they help a little. Some vets have thought it was a herpes virus, others have tried antibiotics, which helps temporarily but then she starts sneezing again. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s too much you can do. The one vet said you can give them squirts of Afrin nasal spray for relief- the stuff for humans- but not too often because it can be addicting and make it worse. Our Isabelle is from a shelter and we suspect she got it there, we’ve had her for 6 years with no real cure for the sneezing. She is still very playful and active but it probably is quite uncomfortable for her. Good luck with your kitty, glad the lysine helps.
