I vacationed there before (not a honeymoon). It’s adults only, all the rooms are suites and the grounds are huge and very clean. It felt like a long time driving from the front gate to the lobby. The pool is amazing. I think it’s a great choice for honeymooners.

If the beach is important, it’s long and can be walked on for quite a distance, but in the swimming area a lot of the entrance had seaweed/rocks. This was a few years ago so conditions may have changed.

Also, it’s not that close to Playa del Carmen if you want to be super close to town.

@gingerspice:  My fiance and I are going there on our honeymoon!  We heard great things about Rivera Maya and this resort was one of the short list recommended by our travel agent.

@gingerspice:  The food was good, if I recall correctly there were at least 4 or 5 restaurants open every night, a Mexican, a French, a Japanese, a seafood and maybe something else? All with 5 star service. The seafood place was the closest to the beach and served lobster so that’s the one you absolutely should make reservations for. They also had a midnight buffet which was really not great but the morning breakfast was wonderful. Omelet station, smoothie station, etc.

I think I went in 2008 or 2009 so you should definitely check out more current reviews on Trip Advisor.

I didn’t go on an excursion on that trip but on my recent Mexico trip I loved Chichen Itza. At first we were just going to save money and rent our own car but paying for the tour was really worth it. The tour guides give you a lot of information that really help you to appreciate it more than if you were just walking the grounds alone.
