Hey there Bees!
My husband and I just recently moved to the Atlanta area, (Marietta/Kennesaw area to be more specific) and we know no one here. Any suggestions on how to meet people? My workplace is great, but everyone here is significantly older than me and I’m trying to find people somewhat around my age. My husband is waiting to hear back about a job offer this week.
Also, my husband and I are agnostic, so we don’t feel comfortable going to churches to meet people, but have no problem being friends with people of all sorts of religious views. Its just not really a part of our lives.
Thanks in advanced!

Hi, I’m currently in the city but have lived in Marietta / Vinings / Cobb county for about 13 years. It can be hard meeting new people in a bigger city like Atlanta.
Depending on where you went to school, are there any local alumni groups you could join? What about any hobbies that you have? Are there any groups/classes related to that?
I will say that I’ve met most of my friends either through work or significant others, so maybe once your husband finds a job, there will be people in your age group there.

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like the only alumni groups for my school are for the entire state of Georgia, and it appears to be alumni much older than us. We both enjoy theatre, but we can’t commit to a show right now because we just got a new puppy. We’re just so isolated and I’m trying to find any scrap of common interest groups I can find to help meet people.

we are in marietta east cobb, looking to buy a house sometime soon. i would suggest meetup.com i dont know many people here either so i signed up on that website and you join groups that interest you and they usually have night outs. the best thing to do though IMO is to go out on a saturday or sunday to the park and walk around, if you h ave animals spark up conversations. i find alot of friendly people that way. if youre into the bar scene i love viriginia highlands and decatur to have a drink. theres tons of things to do. you just have to get out there 🙂 how old are you?

If you have a new puppy, I know there are a couple of dog parks around Marietta and Smyra. That might be a good place to meet other pet owners.

In the kennesaw area there aid a fantastic park that also has a dog park called swift Cantrell. you might be able to meet people there. In Marietta, they have a lot of things that go on in the Marietta square like a farmers market but on friday nights they sometimes have concerts. You might want to check those out.

@spoiledvamp27: Welcome to the area! That’s where I live too. I’m no good at meeting people either, though.

Oh wow! Thanks for all the responses, everyone!
As far as dog parks go, she puppy is too small right now to be allowed in the dog parks. I think she has to be 6 months or older. But maybe I can walk her on her leash around the area outside of the pens. I’ll have to go see them in person to find out. I did take her to a local park that I knew well when we were visiting back in Alabama and she loved it. She’s just not old or trained enough to be let loose with other dogs, and she’s still waiting on her last parvo shot.

1–please don’t take you’re puppy near a dog park or pet store until she is fully inoculated. When she is old enough, that’s a great way to meet people.
2–volunteer somewhere. The Atlanta Humane Society has a lot of volunteers in their 20-30s And a lot of pet-related events. This is where my human germophobia displaced to pets:)
3–find an activity you both enjoy. We are in the process of buying a boat and looking forward to dock life, raft-ups, and other activities
4–to have a friend you have to be a friend…invite a group of neighbors over. Odds are some of them are in the same position.
I know how you feel. We live in Fayette County–great place to raise kids but we don’t have any. Our neighbors are much older. We both work remotely so no local coworkers. We are the house on the cul-de-sac so I think one weekend this summer we just might invite the whole street, block it off, roll the grill up there and have a cookout.
