I took it while TTC for our Dirty Delete. I had really long cycles before (60+ days) and they did regulate. I’m not sure if it was the metformin that helped, or if my body just needed more time off the pill.

With that being said, I’m not sure that your bleeding is due to metformin. I think it’s supposed to be a more gradual change (my doctor told me it could take up to 3 months to start working for period regulating purposes). Also, while your cycles are a bit longer, they aren’t anything crazy or too worrying, I believe a normal cycle is considered to be anywhere from 24 to 35 days.

I just started taking Metformin on October 2nd for PCOS and for help with TTC.  I was having irregular cycles anywhere from 35-55 days long.  After 3 weeks of metformin, I had a 29 day cycle.  For me, it definitely reset eveything so it’s probably doing something similar for you.

I have PCOS, and also take Metformin. My cycles went from 35-42 days or longer. I’m now very regular. Since starting the pill, I’m like clockwork.

However, Metformin never made me bleed in between cycles. If this continues I’d contact your gynecologist or PCP.

Also, just a thought since it’s mid-cycle bleeding – could it possibly be ovulationg spotting/cramps?

I agree with mrsg2beee that it could potentially be O spotting, especially since you got a positive OPK recently. It wouldn’t make sense for you to be getting a period that soon. Metformin also doesn’t reset your body like a progesterone pill or BCP would, it would just help your body regulate it’s own hormone production.

Congratulations! I took metformin to get pregnant with DS. It took about 10-12 cycles for me to ovulate. Glad to hear it went quickly for you!
