I just moved 2 hours away (to the same place I lived in college) and am having the worst home sickness. I never had a problem leaving my family before, but now that all these life changing things are happening I’m mourning the loss of how things used to be hardcore. The hard part is in 3 years we will move even further away (to Florida) and I will miss my family so much! I am going to try to see them as much as possible while I’m still only 2 hours away.

@MaiFuture: You hit the nail on the head with those words. Sometimes it really does feel like “mourning”. Your brain just doesn’t understand why a particular person isn’t coming around every day.
I moved 5 hrs away from my family abut a yr and a half ago. It was really bad when I first moved. I still have my moments, but for me, once I found some things that made my new location feel like “home” it got a lot better. I have found someone I consider a friend and I am getting comfortable in my job and surroundings. I can even go lots of places without relying on my GPS! HAHA You can never replace the people you left behind, but you can create new meaningful relationships. Now I have my original home and the new home I have created with my fiance.

I moved to TN to be with my hubs and my family is in Mass. Luckily, my husband’s family is there too so at least we can see everyone in one trip. Usually we go up there 2 times a year. But between them coming down, and us meeting in other places throughout the year, I ususally see them about 4 or 5 times a year. But I know that’s unusual.. we are really lucky that both us and our families can afford to travel often to see each other.

I definitely won’t get to see them very much at all. I moved from the US to Northern Ireland! It’s simply too expensive to go home often, and immigration is still a pain right now. I know it will be a hard time whenever we have children as well, but I’m trying not to focus on that too much yet!
It has been getting a bit more apparent lately just how far I am from my entire family but I am blessed to have absolutely amazing in-laws who’ve adopted me right away, my Future Mother-In-Law comes over for tea/coffee and takes me out around town a couple times a week!
