I’ve been seriously considering going back to school for a graduate degree in Psychology. I’ve realized it’s my passion and possible calling in life and I’m trying to find the best route, what to expect, etc.
I have my BFA and MFA and right now I teach acting at an accredited school. I’ve been looking into Drama Therapy programs (there’s only two in the US) but have come to the conclusion that it would be beneficial to get my MFT and LPCC to give myself more options. A major plus is that my mother is a professor of psychology at a school that I’m considering which would allow me to make some great connections (and a possible reduction in tuition). As much as I would love to get my PhD, (I would prefer to have the highest degree in my field) it would be too expensive and time consuming since we want to start to try for children in the next 2 years. Given my circumstances, the PhD doesn’t seem essential since I would prefer to be a Professor of Acting, not Psych, if I were to end up in academia.
As I’ve been researching the options I thought, “Why not ask the Bee as well!” Please share your experience, jobs after graduation, salary (only if you’re comfortable), things you wish you’d known, and any other information!
