My first job out of college was essentially working as a social worker. I managed a case load of 18 adults with several mental illness. I helped them with their jobs, helped them find employment, helped them get to doctors appts, take care of housing issues, etc. I only had a BA in Psych in order to do this. I loved what I did and loved my clients but it was very exhausting. I burned out realllly quickly – which can happen a lot if you dont know what you are getting yourself into. The pay was extremely low and I was working more hours than anyone I knew. I was working evenings and weekends and not getting paid overtime. There were many things I loved about the job but after 13 months I needed to do something different. I dont know how that compares to actually having an MSW but I know there are some bees here (I think Hilsy85) who are doing that.

I am currently in an msw program a dn I am very happy. I am finishing up my first year and have one year left. I love the discipline overall and the values of the social work profession and have been happy with my decision to go this route. I am happy to talk to you more about this if youre interested, feel free to PM me. Miss magic is also a social worker and I am sure she would not mind talking to you about it either.
