FH dropped the bomb on me today that he wants us to write our own vows, which was something I really hadn’t considered before now. It’s the only thing he’s even had an opinion on up until this point, so of course I’m not going to say no (despite how much I hate talking in front of people and was hoping for a 1-2 line vow/ring exchange combo).
I’m sure there are other Bees who wrote their own vows. Any tips? Feel free to share yours!

@mepayne: FI wants us to write our own vows.
start early, you only need to talk for 1 minute, i wouldn’t go much over this.
if you google writing your own vows, they have an outline you can follow, things to include or not include.

@ajillity81: Oh gosh, a whole minute seems so long. It’s funny; I’ve been on stage (musicals, dance, and regular theater) so many times and been fine, but reciting my vows in front of a whole bunch of people is terrifying.

@mepayne: My fiance and I will be writing our own vows. Our wedding is still 6 months away, so we haven’t started yet. I’ve been trying to think about some things I’d like to say, though, and jotting down any ideas I have.
We always knew we’d be writing our own vows (at least since we first started seriously talking about marriage prior to getting engaged). Neither of us liked the more traditional vows, and we wanted the opportunity to share our feelings with our family and friends. Sure, it’s completely sappy and some people hate the idea of being so vulnerable in front of others … But it’s what we both really wanted.
For what it’s worth, my fiance isn’t a super sensitive kind of guy. He’s very sweet and can be very romantic, but only in private. I was actually really shocked that he wanted to be so open about his feelings in front of others since he’s usually not into that sort of thing.

I typed “how to write wedding vows” into google. You’ll get a lot of different advice from those sites.
