Ive been looking a dresses and i realize that I don’t really have a specific style that I like. A line, mermaid, etc. I’m 5’1 in height (104lbs) and was wondering if any of you are around my height and what type of dress you went with. Please post pics. It would be super helpful! Thank you!!!

I’m about 5’0 tall. I found that, while the sales associates would try to put me in drop waist gowns to “elongate” my torso, I hated that look. I went with a ballgown with a natural waist and sweetheart neckline. Don’t let your height deter you from trying on all sorts of dresses so you can find the one you truly love!

@ofroyalty: I am the same height/weight as you (well I was 104 for the wedding but now I’m a little more–need to drop some lbs!) and though I originally wanted a big ballgown, I ended up with a lace mermaid/trumpet style dress with a decorated belt and a long train. I thought it was the best for my figure of all the style I tried on.

I’m 5’1 and 135 pounds (I’m trying to lose 20 before the wedding in October) but I have a full ballgown. No pics unforurnately but I LOVE it.

@ofroyalty: I’m 5’1 1/2″ but about 10-15 pounds heavier than you (I have wide hips and thighs). My favorite shape on me was a modified/slim a-line/fit and flare. I LOVE that shape for both style as well as because it’s very flattering.
I’ve posted the crap out of this recently, but here’s a photo (obviously still needs a hem!):
I totally agree with the first poster about trying on whatever you like and seeing what works for you and your body type. You can also always wear heels (although I’m not).

i’m a smidge over 5’1″ and 116 lbs. my first dress (sigh!) was a ballgown, but the dress i’ve settled on with is a drop-waist A line. the ballgown was nice, but the drop-waist elongated me more and worked better with my bust, i think (i’m pretty chesty)

5’0″ and a lot heavier than you here. I am going with an A-line princess-ish dress. Here it is before alterations – I am headless only because that was before I put on any make up and I think it looks funny:
It is currently at alterations to get hemmed. Definitely try on whatever you want. You never know what looks good on you. A lot of women on WeddingBee who are around 5’0″-5’1″ have dropped waist, mermaid, trumpet, etc and they look amazing!

4’10”, about 105 lb right now, my dress is very similar in silouette to nelya8503 ‘s. First fitting this sunday, yay! I think a-lines and ball gowns are perfectly fine for petites, as long as they are not super-puffy. I don’t like mermaid at all, I think there are very few people that can truly look spectacular in that style, and none of them are short, but tastes differ, it’s just a personal peeve:)

I also have a drop-waist ballgown. When I was shopping I initially wanted an a-line but I didnt like any that I tried on. I also liked fit and flares. They say ballgowns are for taller girls but I cant imagine a 6′ tall woman in a ballgown!

5’1” bride here! I went with fit and flare because it looks better with my wider hip. Ball gowns drown me a little. But I made up for not having so much poof by a super long train.

I’m 4’11” and wore a mermaid.

I’m 5’3″ and roughly 130 pounds.
I tried on A lines, mermaids, trumpets (Mermaids & trumpets/fit and flare are the ones I was dead set on getting) but I bought a ballgown.
Why? I liked it best and I felt good in it.
My mother has a shitty phone, so the picture is shitty:

I’m 5 feet even and will be wearing flats with my fit and flare. My top half is a size smaller than my bottom (waist/hips) measurements so the biggest thing for me was finding a dress that didn’t make me look more pear-like than I actually am (I’m looking at you every strapless dress I tried on). While I (and my SO of course) love my hips and butt, I really didn’t want them to the center of attention on the big day. I feel like the straps on my dress help balance me out a bit more.
