So I was wondering are there any Canadian brides around? If so any particular opinions on where and when is the best place/time to go dress shopping? One friend wants me to go to Montreal another to Toronto, I live in teeny tiny Northern Ontario so the choice where I live is zilch.
Plus I can’t decide when the best time of year to go would be, our wedding is in April next year, so I’m thinking I want to have it by the end of fall before it becomes too difficult to get out of town because of the weather.
Any opinions would be very welcome!!

I’m from Montreal. There are some great stores down here especially on St-Hubert Street. It is a street dedicated to bridal shops and everything wedding. I am actually going to go to Dina Alonzi in Toronto. They have been great with me on the phone and I cannot wait for my bridal consultation!
Let me know if I can help with anything 🙂

I’m a Canadian bride, but I live in Calgary so I probably wouldn’t be much help! Good luck!

@Ryansgirl: Ditto! Good luck. I went dress shopping during the day between xmas & new year. It was awesome, and everywhere I went was empty!

Canadian Bride here! I live about 40 minutes away from Toronto, but I bought my dress in Kitchener which is a bit further away.
If you do make it down that way however, Sophies is great – great selection, great prices, and the thing that I loved was that they help you out but it’s not super formal. You can just walk in, pick out your own dresses, etc.

@MissJitterbug: a montreal bride!!!! There’s none of us!
I actually bought my dress in Toronto on Spadina. I found the people were very helpful and they had a great selection. I also went to some places on orfus road but REALLY hated the ladies that worked there.

I’m from Ottawa but I don’t recommend coming here. We are the land of the boring. Montreal and T.O would be awesome 🙂
Yay for us Canucks! (and the Canucks!!!! Yay!!)

I’m in NB so not much big city help from here. I went to one of our larger cities for a specific dress (that was sold when I got there). My advice is go 6+ months in advance. I went about 6 mos out and will only have my dress about 6 weeks before our wedding!

I’m in T.O. I actually bought my dress at a trunk show in Guelph, I did alot of research because I had a specific dress in mind and I lucked out when I found it on sale from the Maggie Sottero trunk show. I’m getting married next year and I bought my dress last year in August (VERY early lol), the dress has arrived and I’ve tried it on several times already and I have no regrets on the dress I picked. I don’t think there’s a specific time to go dress shopping, but def give yourself time to choose one and enough time to have ordered, delivered, altered, etc… Hope This Helps

I bought my dress at L&J Bridal in Brampton, Lina was amazing there. There are also tons of fantastic bridal shops on St Clair Ave in Toronto. I’ve heard really good things about White and Jealous Bridesmaids as well 🙂

@Cicera: Taylors in Elmira, have heard splendid things about it. I went to Ladybug in guelph and the service was amazing, she had me try on all different styles so I could see what suited my body. She was very helpful and didn’t pressure me at all. Where I ended up buying my dress was at a consignment wedding gown store called “She’s so beautiful” google it. Most of the dresses are brand new floor model ones but they only have select sizes. However at 1/3 the price it was definately worth it to check them out. they are located just outside of Hamilton.
