Welcome!! I’m from CT.  I’ve lived here all my life.  There’s really a lot to do.  Hartford and West Hartford are great with lots of dining/bars… not really sure what you’re into.  Southern CT is right on the water… 2 hours from Boston… 2 hours from NYC… 2 hours to Rhode Island… casinos… you name it!!

Feel free to ask any questions you’d like!! 🙂

Hmm…well I’m born and raised in Hartford and I can be honest about my hometown. Depending on where you live, it can be ROUGH. I’m from the North End and while I feel like my neighborhood was decent growing up (I live on the Bloomfield line) the North End can be very rough and there is a lot of violence. Although, I love where I am from and couldn’t see myself getting married anywhere else but Downtown Hartford I’m gonna suggest you look elsewhere.

I went to college in North Carolina, Catawba College in Salisbury, I would recommend you looking towards other areas like Windsor, Bloomfield, West Hartford (can be pricey), Newington, Wethersfield, Farmington if you want to be West of the CT river. Manchester, East Hartford, Vernon, South Windsor those places are nice if you’re looking to be more East of the river. Just to name a few nice towns. There are tons that I think would be more like what you are moving from.

PM if you have questions about a certain area. I live in New Britain now and love it, we’re closer to Farmington, but I have family towards the shore in Westbrook and cousins closer to NYC in Stamford so I’ve been a little bit of everywhere. lol

Sidenote: The Downtown area is really on the rise. There are a lot of bars down there and the apartments are newer and really nice. If you are looking towards Downtown Hftd, or the South End then that is a whole nother cup of tea. You’ll be fine over that way, it’s just the North End can be rough.

Born and breed CT, about 20 min east of Hartford. My sister lives in West Hartford.

Culture wise you will find it much different than NC. The northeast is pretty well known for being “rude” but really what it is, is that people dont tend to talk a ton to strangers, but they arent really rude. They just go about their own business.

@lefeymw:  I agree. On the flipside when I went to college in NC I was so caught off guard with how friendly everyone was. I just was not used to people stopping and chatting with me on the street. lol
