Fiance and I both go to beer festivals, etc. It’s definitely dude-centric and I was wondering if any of you ladies (or your SO) are on Rate Beer/Beer Advocate or just enjoy the craft beer scene. We’re having Struise make a beer for our wedding.
I know delirium.megans is (obviously) a beer person, anyone else?

I think that I am more into beer than my FI! I just started making my own brew (I hope that turns out well) and I am all about some beer festivals! The next one on the calendar is “Brew at the Zoo”! Panda bears and beer? Hells yea!

But yes, I too would love to chat with more beer nerds. And, are incorporating it at all into your wedding? Our venue was a little strict about bringing things in but we did manage a Stone IPA on tap, and our wedding toast was a beer my H made instead of champagne.

Craft beer is the same as microbrewery beer? Fiance and I love love love trying out microbreweries whenever we’re in a new city/state/province/country. We’ve been to quite a few microbrewery tours as well.
One of our passions is actually brewing our own beer in our kitchen. We get the grains, hops and the malt extract.. it is so much fun to experiment and try new things!
My grandpa is actually the one who got me started on local beers because he was always buying beers from a small brewery in town. I loved that every month there were new flavours and types of beer I wouldn’t have ever thought of having. He is actually paying for the kegs for our wedding, and they will be from a local microbrewery. The beer is called Blue Buck, and it’s by Phillips Brewery. It’s our absolute fave!

I love craft beer! My Fiance and I just recently started making our own home brew. We’ve made a brown ale, have hard cider conditioning in the bottle right now, and will be starting a new batch of hefeweizen soon.

Yay beer! 🙂
There’s a place called the Flying Saucer around here (they have quite a few locations in the south) that’s all beer and it’s awesome. The one by us has over 200 beers, with like 50 on tap. I think I’ve worked my way through about 60 of them so far, it’s harder than I thought it would be!

This is awesome! Yeah, we’re going down to Tampa this weekend for a festival, and then maybe to this big event in LA, where I’m from, to do some wedding stuff as well. He home brews and we’re thinking about making a cider soon. Like I mentioned, we’re having some beer made for the wedding which will be awesome.

@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d: We have a Brew at the Zoo here, I love it!
I used to work for a microbrew, and love trying all kinds of new beers. We have tried to make our own a couple of times with varying levels of success. We thought about making some for favors but the legality got too complicated.
As far as incorporating it into our wedding we are serving a local APA that we are both big fans off. Also the cake balls we are serving are made with local beers from the same brewery.

@misspeanut: My goodness that sounds amazing.

We are! Darling Husband used to brew, now we just mostly drink 🙂

The way we are incorporating craft beer into our wedding is though the after party. Our venue is super strict about using their alcohol, so after the reception all the partiers are heading to a local restaurant that makes their own beer. There are rumors of a signature brew just for us 🙂

Semi-nerd. I actually don’t drink beer (i hate it, have never tried it), but my future husband is The Biggest Craft Beer Enthusiast In The World. He has homebrewed for several years, and I nkow more about craft beer and breweries and styles than most people who DO drink beer. I ahven’t joined him at any beer festivals because I can’t justify the cost of my ticket if I’m not drinking.
At our wedding we’re actually getting to have two bottles and two draft beers…he can’t decide which because obiovusly it all depends on the seasonals they have currently…and at least one must be local!!
ETA: just remembered–he’s hoping for hoppyum and (and I’m not kidding about this quote) “a local IPA that speaks to me”. Yes, try not to roll your eyes haha.
He’s also brewing a stout for his groomsmen (our venue won’t allow a hoembrew to be served), and making the lables look like perscription bottles, since he’s going to be a doctor. He’s so proud of that!

I’m not a craft beer nerd, but my guy is one! I’m pretty boring in my tastes, but I do like trying out different versions of similar beers by different craft brewers.
He’s been into brewing in the past, but it kind of became a pain for him to keep up. It didn’t help that we have different preferences with only a few crossover varieties we’ll both drink consistently.
We just took the brewing equipment and started making wine instead.

Yes! My fiance and I actually had our first date at a local Dogfish Alehouse… and that is where he proposed too 🙂 Beer is a very big part of our lives!
We’re thinking of turning all of our beer bottles into centerpieces and having each table represented by a different brewery we love! And potentially going to one of those “brew on premise” places to make our own beer as a favor.
