Haha! Walmart of bridal stores!

I’m a DB bride too!  And I was a total DB snob but went on the advice of my Maid/Matron of Honor.  I went in with an open mind and while some of the dresses looked cheap and not well made, I did really like a few of them.  Fell in love with two of them.  I actually purchased one and then found another one online that I liked more so bought that one too!  I wish I could say I could say my dress came from somewhere classier but who cares?!  You’re not alone!

I’ve seen a couple of brides in Davids Bridal, and they looked gorgeous! Most ppl cannot tell the difference. What’s most important is that you find a dress that suits you, wherever it comes from. I’m sure you will look great!

I had not so great thought about it until I went there and saw some of the dress.  I walked in one day looking for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.  The manager was just unpacking “the” dress, OMG, I knew I had to have THAT dress.  I practically ripped it out of her hands to check the size.  It wasn’t on the web site yet, nor in their mag.  It was exactly what I was looking for.

I love David’s Bridal!!  The people in the NJ store (Paramus or Woodbridge maybe?) have always been sweet, helpful and professional.  My sister got her gown there and it was amazing!  We’ve always gotten our bridesmaids dresses there and they have always been wonderful.

I mean, it isn’t a winter coat I’m going to wear 100 times.  It’s a gown that gets a couple of hours tops.  What the hell do I care if the silk came from the most luxurious worms in the world or something – it’s a dress! lol  If the material looks good and is put together fine I’m not going to whimper that it isn’t the finest – I just don’t need that level of meticulousness in a dress I”m wearing for 7 hours at the absolute most and is getting sold afterwards.

I’ve had mixed experiences.. I thought I had a great experience the first time I went in, only to find out several months later, at another store in a diff state when looking at Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses with 1 of my girls, that my dress came in a petite size.  I’m 5’3, and the dress is designed for someone 5’9.  My consultant failed to tell me this, even after she talked about having to get it hemmed, etc…

I’ve been away at grad school since purchasing the dress, and havent had any time off since finding about about the petite size, until Christmas break.  I went into the store I purchased it from, and they told me they couldn’t exchange it bc it had been out of the store for over 90 days.  The assistant store manager was soooo fake, it drove me up the wall.  I left, and when I had gotten back to my car & was heading across the street to get lunch, I get a call from them saying the store manager had OK’d it, but they don’t usually allow brides to do this (I think it was just because they knew I’d take it back to the store where I’m going to school to do it since they said they would if my home store gave me any problems).

Came back, and they had assigned me to a consultant who had NO idea what my situation was, and was trying to talk to me about layaway etc.. Had to explain multiple times what I was trying to do.  SO aggravating.  I had ordered a 10 in May that fit like a glove, but I’ll admit I probably gained 5-6 pounds since then.  But no more than that.  Knew the 10 wouldnt fit anymore, so tried on the 12.  Would barely zip at all.. took my measurements & said I measured b/w a 14 & 16… um, how is it that a 10 (I’m normally a street size 10) fit perfect in May, and now after gaining 5 pounds I’ve gone up TWO OR THREE sizes?!  the 14 ended up being too big.. which I didnt understand the zipper on the dress 1 size down would barely move at all but the next size up was definitely too big.

Anyway, the store I went to out by where I’m finishing school has been great.. super friendly, very accomodating, love them.  My home store however, I can’t say such nice things about.  It’s definitely hit or miss with DB.. the experience is different depending what store you go to.  Despite the service though, I still love my dress!

I have been there several times since ordering my dress and have always had great service.  Last week I was there looking for a ball gown for an event and the consultant was super super great.  I was with my Maid/Matron of Honor out of coincidence and they even helped her try to find something to wear for my wedding.  I didn’t find a dress there, but she really went above and beyond to help us.  She even had me try on a dress that I would have never tried on (a mermaid dress) and it was awesome and made me look so skinny.  It was not appropriate for where I was going, but zammm I looked good in it and she was right.

Im a DB bride also! They were GREAT with me! : ) My wedding isn’t until July but I already have my dress and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It was TOTALLY in budget and anyone that sees it that doesn’t know its from DB thinks it cost alot of money…. it was only $399! Leaving more $$ for my Badgley Mischka shoes! LoL : ) I personally like DB; but my dress was not my splurge in my wedding…. my photos were!

@tksjewelry: I went, I saw and I ended up buying! I didnt even want to go but I was living in Dallas, my mom is in NY and we were meeting in Charleston SC where we are getting hitched! So I wanted to give my mom the “buying your daughters wedding dress” experience, I know she feels left out cause I am so far away…. it worked out well! The consultant was great and I had like 4 other groom’s moms and folks adding opinions! I am going to change the dress a bit but overall I am happy with the experience and my mom was thrilled! It was worth it to have her there!

Changes: I may have the neck line pulled down to be a bit more sweetheat and I am going to remove the embellishment. I still love the idea of a sash and would like some femmy flowers to add to the side waistline.

I too was reluctant to go to David’s Bridal but I had booked several consultations at more expensive places but found “the” dress there…now after seeing so many gorgeous dresses I always find myself having second thoughts until I look at my dress.

Here’s mine..i’ve posted it in another thread already. My experience there was great..they gave me 3 hours with my consultant even though the store was pretty busy. I’m picky and it took me 3 hours to try on 7 dresses..lol.

I’m wondering if I should have tried on more or looked other places.

I totally am a DB girl. I thought it would be a not so great experience, but it was wonderful! The woman who helped me was super, they shipped my dress (to bush Alaska, no less), and even followed up to make sure it arrived. If you had told me a few months ago I’d be a DB bride, I so wouldn’t have believed you!

I

went other places and I would’ve bought a dress from another place but every time I went to something went wrong. When I went to DB for the final time (I swear I tried on half of their collection) I tried a dress on, had that reaction, and found out it was $125. I love her!!

and will be wearing her with this cape for the photos only:

bellagio:  I love your dress with the pickups!  I was so torn between something trumpet with lace, or something with pickups and more “ummpfff”, but my Fiance is tall and skinny so I figured I needed something more slim.

All these dresses are so pretty!

I have dress envy after looking at all these dresses on this board!  Makes me want to try more on!!
