This weekend was opening weekend for gun season where I’m from! Fiance went to deer camp and had a great time. The problem with us is that I love to go hunting too! He likes to take me, but he got the chance to be on a friend’s lease these last couple years, so I haven’t been able to go with him 🙁 He promised that I will get to go with him next season.
Luckily, he’s already gotten 2 deer this season (1 with his bow, 1 this weekend with his gun). I think he wants 1 more and then he’ll be done. We are saving the meat for when we get married. I have soo many amazing vension recipes that I can’t wait to cook for us! stews, steaks, brats, and more.
Anybody else dating/married to a grizzly hunter man? There are definite pros and cons, but I love my outdoorsy guy 🙂

Normally my guy is out hunting during the season but this year he has had too many sinus surgeries to be out there tromping through it. I usually go by myself with my friends and usually he goes with his. We both have hunting groups we have been with for many years so it’s one of the few things we do separately. I’ll miss it this year too, sadly, it’s my show of solidarity.

Dh got his dear thrid day of the season this year (where I’m from you get one tag combingin bow, muzzle and rifle). We had the backstraps yesterday and they were awesome. We also ground a lot of the meat and I’ve made one batch of jerkey.
I don’t mind hunting, it can be a lot of fun, but since I’m pregnant and I pee every 12 minutes I didn’t have an interest in going this year (except for grouse).
My only real issue is that our season run into eatchother, grouse starts in September and runs until december with moose sep-oct and deer nov-dec. So I’m totally abandoned every weekend.

I’be been dealing with opening days since September when early goose opened! So trust me I feel your pain! Opening day is my birthday so i dragged him away from deer camp for a while. But this weekend alone he got a doe, 4 geese and he trapped his first fox! So he’s been out like crazy! I’m really not excited to wash all his camo

Glad to know there are other bees out there who feel my pain!
I don’t know if it would be SUCH a big deal if we were married, but right now I only get to see my Fiance on weekends. Well right now we will only have 2 days together over a month and a half. This is due to a mixture of him hunting and me going on break back to my hometown. 🙁 I’m taking comfort in the fact that this will be the LAST hunting season like this. At least when we are married I will get to see him every evening, plus we are going to figure out how I can go hunting WITH him, so it will be even better.
Oh, the life of a hunter’s “widow” 🙂

@wildflowerbee: Mine just got his first buck of the season….although we did notice all the deer around where we live seem to keep getting over populated and are kind of sickly looking….but his buck looks good….and we are getting all the meat processed into steaks, and various cuts….but my FAVORITE of every year is the jerkey and sticks! YUMMY! I love it! Plus i know it is a great way for him to unwind after harvest every year….
