Before I begin this post, this is my disclaimer:
I have been to a doctor. I am taking the prescribed antibiotics, and I will call the office again tomorrow or the next day if I’m still feeling off. I’m just curious.
So, weekend before this past one, on Friday and Saturday I woke in the night with night sweats. Kind of weird, because I’m very cold-natured, always cold, and husband is frequently hot, but I had the night sweats and he was fine. Sunday morning woke with a headache in the front left part of my head, above my eye. Took medicine and it went away, thought nothing of it. That night the fever came at 100.5, and the headache was there, but wasn’t, it was just a vague feeling of my brain bouncing around in my head when I moved. Monday and Tuesday, I worked from home alternating fever and chills, with a headache. My lymph nodes were swollen and my neck was hot and sore. I felt achy all over in general, with fatigue, but not really sleepy tired all the time, just worn down. By Thursday, my face was swollen too, mostly around my eyes. The highest my fever has been through all of this 101.
Thursday I went to the doctor. She looked down my throat for Mono, but the glands in my throat were not swollen, I’ve only had a minor sore throat sometimes at night, and I have no rash. She ruled out Mono. She said it couldn’t be bacterial meningitis, because I was still alive and the fever had been daily for 5 days. She said it must be some kind of infection, or viral meningitis, but on my paperwork she put “unspecified sinusitis.” She prescribed an antibiotic, and said to fight the fever with alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen. She said to call back if I wasn’t feeling better and she’d run tests. I was a bit upset/annoyed about the “sinusitis” diagnosis, because I have had no nose symptoms, no congestion runniness, nothing. I got a bit of a cough on Saturday, after seeing the doctor and starting the antibiotics.
I think I feel better? I’m not sure what normal feels like anymore after a full week of this. My lymph nodes are still swollen, now with a new swollen one on the left side (since Saturday). I still have daily fever, but it’s very low grade, in the 99s. My head feels warm, but doesn’t outright ache, but sometimes it aches to move my eyes within my head, so instead I just turn my head completely. I’m still having night sweats, but last night I felt like it wasn’t as bad. Like I wasn’t as hot and didn’t sweat as much, and it didn’t last as long.
I guess I’m going to give it another day? I hate going to the doctor, because I feel like they typically just prescribe antibiotics, which ended up happening this time too. I also feel like I shouldn’t go to the doctor unless I’m severely sick, because if not, I’m wasting their time.
I don’t know. Any ideas or similar experiences?
