Well.. I guess I’m one of that. I moved to Dubai few years ago, I didn’t expect to find my future husband since I didn’t really care much about lovelife. I met my fiancé just few month after I moved, he’s also an expat. I also found him on Tinder, so it’s super modern classic romantic lol

I met Darling Husband in Australia, and after a year of long distance dating we both moved to England so that we could be together. We lived there for three years together and I loved it, it’s where we moved in together and got engaged. Now we are happily married and have since moved back to my home country Canada ๐Ÿ™‚

I met my husband when we were both working in China. We then moved back to his home country (Sweden) before moving to my country (Australia).

And now I speak Swedish!

I met Darling Husband after moving to Granada, Nicaragua. I think I’d been there 2 months when he came roaring through town on a motorbike. He was traveling through Central America but never made it past Nicaragua thanks to me haha. I’m American and he’s from New Zealand, and we now live in Australia together and are expecting our first baby any day now. ๐Ÿ™‚

Met Darling Husband after 18 months living in Spain. We got married 3 weeks ago and still live in Spain together ๐Ÿ™‚

Been living in Spain a total of 6 years now and have no intention of moving back to the UK, plus Darling Husband would hate the UK, haha.

I met my fiance while living in Japan. We were exchange students going to two different schools. I met him through a friend, when she went home later on I spent some time talking to him about all the places I wanted to see before I went home, and he emailed me an itinerary the next day and made sure I saw everything on my list. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was seeing someone else at the time and we just became good friends, only seeing each other when we traveled overseas because we lived across the country from each other. However, I finally got my act together and realized how amazing he is, and now we are getting married in almost 2 weeks!

Met my husband in NZ, we did long distance when I returned to the US. He then followed me over and we took time out from life and roadtripped around the country for several months. At the end of the roadtrip we broke up when he got a job offer back in NZ and I got one in Asia. At that point he had the travel bug so moved to Canada, I in the meantime became an expat in the UK, then the Netherlands. 2.5 years after breaking up we ended up both in the same town for a weekend so reconnected. Decided feelings were still there. 6 months later he moved to NL to be with me. Several years later we moved to Belgium. Now we’re in the US pursuing career opportunities.

Who knows where we’ll go next but probably won’t be for a while as we want to be settled in a single place for the early years of raising our family over the next 5-10 years.

There have been cultural differences throughout our relationship, and honestly living in a foreign country made it easier because neither of us had ‘home court advantage”. We’ve been together long enough that most of those have dissipated though. He is a bit shocked by some of the American systems (healthcare, education, transit…) but I can’t say I’m any less shocked since this is the first time I’ve really LIVED in the US as an adult.

I moved to Dubai in 2013, met my husband through a mutual friend in 2014 and in 2015 we started dating! Both expat..  weirdly grew up 30 minutes from each other but never met nor knew of each other until then!
