Figured I should probably update this thread now. We met with my doctor and went over everything, took a month to think about it, and I’m officially moving forward with Accutane. I have an appointment in a week to start the paperwork and bloodwork. I’m very nervous but excited!

@AnneTossy: Let us know how everything goes and look after yourself. I did a cycle of Accutane when I was 20-21 (about 5-6 years ago) and it was the right decision for me.
I had cystic acne all through Jr. High, High School, and early college. I finally bit the bullet and did a 6 month cycle. I had some relatively severe physical side-effects, but didn’t have any mental trouble. Invest in a good face lotion, chapstick, and dandruff shampoo just in case, because those were the three biggest things for me. Also, get your glasses prescription updated (if you have corrective eyewear) because I had to stop wearing my contacts within a few weeks of starting treatment. To this day, my eyes, hair, and skin are on the dry side so be prepared for that possibility as well.
I had Ulcerative Colitis before I started Accutane so I can’t attribute my condition to the medication, but my flare-ups (when I have them) are more severe now than they used to be.
For reference, here is what my skin looks like now. I’m wearing air-brush foundation in this picture, but it has not been re-touched in any other way. If you had seen me in high school, you never would have thought I could have skin like I have now 🙂
