I wore a longline bra, but not a corset.  The other thing that helped was having a crinoline underneath.  Because it flared out below my waist, it concealed the abdomenal bulges and made my waist look smaller by contrast.

@2dBride:was the crimoline really hot?  I’ve been hesitant to consider one after trying on dresses and David’s Bridal and sweating like crazy.

Well, we got married in Massachusetts in October, and it was not too hot for that.  It was a bit warm for the overheated at-home reception in DC.

I’m not. I’m a size 18 and the dress sucks me in and smooths me out enough. Thank goodness, because it’s already gonna be hot enough.

Do you need one underneath or do you just feel like you want to smooth it out more?

I don’t think I will be wearing one. I am going to my seamstress on Thursday and we will see.

Right now I love my dress the way it is!

@RebeccaAndKevin:

wow, you look great without one! If you don’t need one, don’t get one! I actually tried some on before I went to my dress fitting and was SO relieved when I didn’t have to get one.

I’m not.  I think a corset would be uncomfortable for a whole day.

I actually wear spanx on a daily basis. I’m so used to them by now that they feel just like normal underwear to me. When I was trying on dresses the bridal consultant did give me a corset to wear and it wasnt too uncomfortable but I didnt feel that it did much in terms of sucking me in anymore than my normal spanx do. I plan on ordering a dress with a corset back anyway so I don’t need the extra bulk.

A good corset is custom made for you and should feel comfortable…. not itchy or scratchy.  Spanx are great!  You also can check out a long line bra.

The corset on my dress definately keeps your posture in check.  I stand up straighter and it helps minimize the gut.  I think I am still going to wear spanx to control my booty though.  I think depending on the style of the dress, it helps with the waist cinching details.
