@Coral99:  Thank you! It is more wide than deep when I look at it, although the basket it’s set in, is taller than it needs to be so it sits high. I have heard before that sapphires look smaller than the comparative carat for diamonds because of their deeper cut. So take that as you will. Did that make any sense?

@Susanlee178:  Thank you! It’s from the Etsy seller EidelPrecious and it’s described as seafoam blue green.

@Susanlee178:  Not sure I’m the same bee, only posted that ring once before.  There are still some on JTV, but only as pairs in RB.  Would have loved a grey sapphire!

I know that a lot of natural black diamonds are actually a grey color. Most black diamonds you see in stores are heat treated to make them darker. You can try to look for natural, untreated black diamonds and that might give you some grey stones 🙂

I’m a big fan of grey diamonds. Pre-engagment I used to play around with this color diamond website and pretend I was a billionaire.

I prefer ones that are a deep grey blue such as:

Oh my! I wanted to write this post so bad! But I’m not really close to being engaged so it seemed a little silly of me. I am beyond happy that you did 🙂 It’s my current ring dream to have something like this recreated with a grey stone halo. Spinel, sapphire or diamond are all beautiful.

PLEASE CHECK OUT GRAY SPINEL AS AN ALTERNATIVE!!!!   I mean to tell you this is a super gray diamond alternative!  This is a 2.33ct, titanium gray Spinel from Burma (Myanmar).  The great things about Spinel are that firstly, they sparkle like a diamond because of having a single refraction index (as does diamond).  Secondly, they are tough gems…8.5 MOHS makes them way, way tougher than most other natural gems…in fact, they are close to sapphire in their MOHS but have much better fire and normally are flawless or IF in clarity.  This Spinel here I found online for $107!  It is presently available…it is an awesome gray color!  I have two gray Spinels that I adore…one a lighter gray, the other darker like this…they are truly gorgeous in person and look absolutely fabulous set in white gold, platinum or palladium with diamond accents!

@ebdesign:  Thanks for posting that gray spinel looks stunning! I have a purple-red cushion spinel and it shines just like a diamond, in fact many ppl ask me if it was a colored diamond. I’m gonna do some research on the gray ones too!
