I don’t play, but my husband does… Let me check in with him and I’ll let you know what he says. 😀

My SO plays bass and guitar, and from my expereince what is considered “good” varies greatly with personal taste and what type of guitar he plays (electric or acoustic, metal or vinyl strings, etc).  If it were me I would take a peek at his stuff while he wasn’t around to see which brands he normally uses.  Or if you have a local music store, go and ask which picks would be good for the type of guitar he uses.  In my experience music store dudes usually like to show off their knowledge to girls, so they can be pretty helpful Tongue Out

On a kinda side note, I don’t know off hand if these are actually good, but I know my guy pointed these out to me and thought they were really cool:

They’re made out of old vinyl records.  If your husband listens to a lot of vinyl these could be a fun gift, perhaps in addition to some standard picks for everyday use.

My Darling Husband plays and I don’t think he’s that picky with picks. I’ve even seen him play with a quarter if he doesn’t have a pick on him.

He picked up a bag of generic picks the other day, he plays acoustic – they were just the usual shaped ones.

My fiance plays regularly and says it’s a really personal thing. Also depends what type/style of music he plays…but fender or dunlop are a good place to starts…something with a medium strength or less

Hope that helps!

I play and will post a link below of my absolute favorites!!  I’ve tried many kinds but love these.  I will say it’s really a personal preference, though ~ some prefer thinner picks, some thicker; there are some that have ridges (better to not slip from your hand).  The good thing is they’re cheap so you can buy a variety.  I’d recommend going to a local guitar shop where you can buy them singly and purchase a bunch of different kinds.  Anyway, here’s the ones I use:

Wow, sorry I am so late to this. My answer is probably useless now, but Darling Husband said it’s really a personal preference, what kind of guitar he has, what type of music he plays (i.e. someone who plays heavy metal will want a different pick compared to someone who plays country music), etc. That said, he recommends Dunlop Vinyl as a lot of people seem to like them.
