I am currently working toward management in retail. I enjoy my job as we are a very specialised form of retail ( agricultural) and we form very close working relationships with our customers.
However i am looking to re train in early childhood education/ as a carer.
I was just wondering if there was anyone who can give me anny advise or tips in this field. Iam going to go into an in home childcare agency tomorrow to ask about their training options and possibly working one day a week for experience.
I am 20 and my partner and i are clucky for babies but waiting untill we have travelled and have a house to raise our children in.

My advice is to go work in a daycare so you can try it out without the commitment and responsibility all on you. I’m not sure 1 day a week will show you his tiring it is. I’ve worked in two daycares and I teach public school now. Working in a daycare is hard and while you definitely need to love children, just liking babies isn’t always enough. Have you babysat a lot, multiple kids at a time?

I agree with floridagrlblue. I also worked in daycares, nannied for many years and now i work in a preschool as a teacher. Its a TON of work and its very physically and mentally demanding (children need constant supervision). Not to mention all the standing, picking up after them, putting them in time out when needed, cleaning, feeding, putting down for naps…its very draining, but rewarding if you truly know thats what you want.
