That’s our first choice destination, but I’m not sure I can deal with the 24 hour plane ride. We’ll have to decide soon!

Lucky girl! Bali is fabulous and the Balinese people are wonderful. I was worried Bali would be overrated or filled with touts (which marred one of my friend’s visit to Bali, but I think it was because she wasn’t expecting them…), but it’s beautiful, there’s plenty of things to see and do, the local food is delicious, and I didn’t find the touts overly aggressive (although I’m probably more used to them and I didn’t hang out at Kuta Beach).

Have a wonderful time (and be careful feeding the temple monkeys — they’re not all sweet and docile, and it’s the aggressive ones that approach/grab/bite you)!

I JUST got back from our Bali honeymoon two days ago.  Still jet-lagged!  We went for a month and had only our first 4 nights reserved.  We found some amazing places and had a fabulous time.  I’m happy to give you our recommendations if you are interested PM me.

Do you have a rough idea of where you want to go?  Stay in one place, or travel?  Hotel budget?

Very exciting, congrats!

Yes! We’re honeymooning in Bali, and I grew up in Indonesia so I know a bit about it 😛 Where in Bali will you be staying? We will be near Kuta…it is a bit too busy there for some but I like the atmosphere. I really recommend visiting some of the silver villages and temples in the countryside, so beautiful and tranquil out there.

buintx is right, the Balinese people are so friendly and lovely. And also about the monkeys- they are freaky! One of my friends had one throw a full water bottle at him and it hit him square in the nuts :O

I think you are going to have a fabulous time, Bali is a great place to relax! 🙂

I third that re: the monkey sanctuary.  The monkeys terrified me.  Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to hide food from a monkey.  They will find it.

I was just doing some preliminary reserach on Bali and WOW… gorgeous.  What are some hotels people are using?  How much are you budgeting for hotel/food and for how long?  I have difficulty judging how expensive foreign places are : )

@Future Frett: The best thing about Bali: good food is CHEAP (well unless you’re eating somewhere like the Hilton). A good meal for one person will be abot $10-15 USD or cheaper (your budget is what you make it I guess). Hotels are also pretty affordable- we’re spending about $1500 for two weeks on the hotel, and that includes breakfast and honeymooners treatment 😀

What area of Bali are you planning to stay in? Hotel proces range depending area…Kuta is pretty good, so is Seminyak and Sanur, Nusa Dua is lovely but is getting more pricey, and the same with Ubud.

@Future Frett: Our honeymoon budget was $10,000 for one month in Bali.  Airfare from Seattle was $1500/person, and I *think* we stayed on budget, but haven’t processed our receipts yet.  We stayed at a mix of moderate ($40) places to super fancy ($500) places.  You can really find it all there.  Our favorite places in and around Bali were Ubud, Gili Trawangen, Seminyak and the Bukit Peninsula.  I have some hotel/restuarant suggestions if you get that far.

bali is beautiful. went there recently for a vacation with my fiance and fell IN LOVE. i don’t recommend kuta (although many others do) unless you are into the night-life, party scene. my Fiance and i are more the laid-back, homebody type who love the beach, good food and drinks – we loved our stay in sanur beach so i recommend it highly! whatever you choose, you’ll have a great time!!! enjoy your time there Smile
