We got married in September and are now ready to plan our honeymoon. We love Japan and really want to experience the cherryblossom for our honeymoon. What would be the best time to travel? Calling all Japanese or ex-pat Bees! We heard near the end of March was a good time – from your experience when is the best time to see the blossom? And when to book? We can probably go for two or three weeks…
Thanks in advance!

@cherryshake: I’m not sure if it is the same as the states, but in DC there is a cherry blossom festival web site. The blooms usually come in around the same time, but depending on the weather they can be off by a week or more!! Plus the festival starts when they start to open (which there’s not many flowers) to peak which is like…heaven. It’s the most breathtaking thing I’ve ever seen. Here’s the link to the DC one’s bloom watch: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=404
In Japan, the tourism board will release the dates in February.
Here are the past year’s dates organized by city (there’s a lot of variation so you might want to find out which city has the best festival and then book around that date):

@papercrayons: thank you so much – that’s amazingly helpful! Is february too late to book flights for March/April do you think? Should I try and guess from previous years? Is it pretty consistent in DC when the flowers open?
