@nskillet:  I wonder if you are getting actual periods or just “breakthrough bleeding.”  Have you recently gone off birth control?  Are you sure you ovulate?

I have PCOS and I don’t ovulate.  My cycles range from about 40-60 days in length. My periods are not “real”…my body just sort of bleeds when it wants to!

How were you tested for PCOS?  Blood or ultrasound?  You might want a second opinion on it anyways, just for peace of mind.

@nskillet: I had the same problem with my cycles, last year. I am also a plus-sized girl, and clear of PSOS, polyps and cysts. That being said, I’ve recently lost 70lbs, and my cycles are pretty much bang-on each month, now.. maybe a difference in cycle by 2-3 days, if that.

I was on BC for 6 years or so and then stopped using it maybe a year and a half ago. It wasn’t until the last 6-8 months that my cycle got back to normal. Before that AF would come about once every two months. I told my Dr about it early on and she didn’t seem overly concerned. Then when seeing a different Dr. for a cyst she explained that cysts could have been the reason behind this. In the end, as I’ve only had the one cyst, and it came right about the time my cycles were getting back to normal, my personal opinion was that it was just my body’s timeline regulating itself after getting off the pill.

I have very long cycles, but it’s a fammily thing. None of us have reproductive problems, but it’s not abnormal for us to only have a couple periods a year. BUT I was always the most “regular” until recently. I’ve only had 3 periods since September and my Darling Husband and I are TTC. There are herbal remedies you can take to try to regulate your cycles. I’ve been taking fertilaid for about 10 days and I already see a difference!

I am between 35-46 now…since I got married it has been longer and longer and I don’t know why. 🙁 I had a blood test to make sure everything was ok and no problems. It’s just weird and kinda discouraging.

I am fairly petite and do not have any (diagnosed) reproductive problems, and yet my cycles have ranged anywhere from 28 days to 49. Four years ago I went nearly 4 months without a period. I have been on and off birth control for the last 10 years and it’s entirely normal for me to have a 7 week cycle when off. My first cycle after going off birth control this last time was 47 days. I have been doing a lot of research and it seems that could be a cause for concern but I’ve seen probably about 10 gynecologists over the last 10 years (moved around a lot) and none of them really thought anything of it. Since I never wanted to get pregnant before now it never bothered me either.

Ok thfis is freaky. After so many years of long cycles, I just got AF today, when my last period was also on the 11th. This is very freaky for me. Maybe because I stopped drinking coffee and only like one soda per week?

Before going on the pill, my cycle was about 40 days long… I always thought I was late, but I eventually understood the pattern, and it was just how my body was.

Maybe there’s nothing to worry about, but you’re wise to be on the safe side and getting the doctor to check.

Now that I’m off the pill, I expect my cycle to become long again..
