I am a trusts and estates attorney and had someone else draft it. It was worth it to me to have her deal with my husband’s attorney about sensitive issues so we didn’t have to argue. Also, it was one less thing for me to deal with before the wedding.

For what it is worth, the recitals usually provide that you have each had independent counsel. You might check your state’s domestic relations law to see if you need to insert a waiver of independent counsel in the agreement if you end up divorcing. Inadequate representation etc. could be grounds on your end for invalidating a prenup.

Unless you cannot afford to hire someone, I would not do it yourself.  It’s a legal document but also very personal, and it could affect your relationship.

Am I the only one who did not draft one?  Were you all independently wealthy prior to marriage?
