underthestars99 :  No. States recognize marriages conducted in other states, but that doesn’t mean they follow that other state’s laws on other matters like a name change. If you move to ME, change your name, then move back to IL, that would work. Otherwise, you’ll have to go through whatever process IL allows for changing your names.

The text you quoted seems to refer to Maine residents. You need to look at what IL requires. Unless IL has exceptions (which I would think is unlikely because you’re changing your name in IL), you just need to follow their law.

Moreover, any (I’d assume the same rule applies everywhere) lawyer bee isn’t allowed to give legal advice to a non-client. Just call the relevant authority, they’ll know.
