So I live outside of Houston near lake conroe. I’m looking into venues for October and can’t believethe prices. My Fiance isn’t lds so we won’t be doing a temple wedding but in AZ all my friends had their receptions in someone’s backyard that was gorgeous (you’d never even know it was a backyard ) but here I don’t know. He comes from money but his parents refuse to help and don’t want him to either because it’s not “traditional”. So I’m trying to do it on a very tight budget and I really don’t want to resort to the church cultural hall….. any suggestions from anyone out there??

One of my good friends is LDS and her husband is not. So when they were planning their wedding, they experienced a lot of frustration from the grooms side. Saying a typical LDS cultural hall wedding, with sherbert punch, was “not enough”. So I understand where you are coming from 🙂
I don’t have any specific suggestions for you but I absolutely suggest you looking at restaurants. Restaurants are often very reasonably priced, beautiful without any decoration, and already have tables, linens, flatware, etc. Other options include state parks (VERY cheap, and are similar to having a gorgeous backyard wedding), a friends yard, or having a morning/afternoon reception (much less expensive at traditional venues).

I had mine in a restaurant in San Diego! I was so fun and perfect for our family! We did everything on a $5,000 budget. a backyard one sounds so sweet and beautiful! i think you should go for it!
