I used to! I worked full time as a legal assistant through both my degrees. I really loved it. We worked on diet drug litigation and other corporate accounts. We were the largest defense firm in the area, and I really thrived on the pressure.

My sis ended up working there too, and as you said, the people made the place. I’m still in touch with some of them years later.

Sometimes I miss it. I loved the consistency of the work and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day/week.

mrssvilli:  Interesting. How long did it take to get those? Do you have any other training or education? Or do you recommend any?

I’m a legal secretary 🙂

I’ve worked at the law firm for 4 years in April but as a secretary for 2 years. The firm does commercial, conveyancing, estates, family, litigation and criminal law but I work for one solicitor doing commercial, conveyancing and estates mostly. I like having the variety and it’s only a small office – 15 people or so. I’m currently doing a diploma of legal services which should improve my skills. I love my job 🙂

mrssvilli:  That makes sense. Did you ever think about going a few more years and getting a full-on law degree? Or you knew from the start that you wanted a paralegal career?

I am!!! I work at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Bureau Secretary. I do some paralegal work too and I also search for any civil suits police officers have before a trial starts. I have to say I do enjoy working there because there’s never a dull momement. I have my Masters in Criminal Justice and I would like do to more than just legal secretary work and it’s been a struggle finding the right job because I don’t want to work in corrections nor become a police officer.
