I had this same issue as well!  Look at Jordan and Jasmine dresses!

@Ember78: as a MOG, I was having the same problem.  I found a lovely bronze taffeta that had assymetrical ruching on the front (figure flattering!) and of course the standard strapless and bolero jacket.  I solved the problem by getting an extra length of material and working with the bridal shop to create a non – strapless look so I could get the extra coverage when I take off my jacket and also not feel like it was going to fall off of me!  We came up with three ideas ; a wider ruched strap over the shoulders , a wider strap that cris-crossed in the back and also a halter strap that is ruched in front and attaches with a hook and eye around my neck.  I went with the last halter style.  It gives me just enough confidence  if and when I end up taking my jacket off at the reception when Darling Husband and I dance. You could also do a portrait collar effect.  It waa a perfect solution for me ; hope this helps to give you some ideas!

My mom did not want anything with thin straps, strapless, “too old,” “too young,” or “too tight.” I didn’t think we would ever find the perfect dress, but she ordered hers online from Nordstroms; it’s a navy dress with flutter sleeves and it’s really pretty. Check their website as there are a lot of classy and flattering dresses there for middle-aged women!

I found mine online @ http://www.keepmeinstitches.biz

I absolutely LOVED it!

Make sure mom gets measured professionally, and if you have any question about sizes-ask their customer service, as their dresses run VERY small!!!

They have a ton of different styles, and the prices are great!
