Elrodien :  Yup, I did.  I waited until my 2nd trimester and my stylist was careful to not get too close to my roots.  I think you’ll be fine!

I’m waiting until I’m done my first trimester (one more week!) but then I’ll be dying it. I’ve done my research and all signs point to it being fine, as long as you’re reasonably smart about it (like, don’t purposely inhale a ton of fumes).

Elrodien :  I definitely rermeber all the paranoia!  It sounds like you did all the right things though.  🙂

Personally I didn’t dye my hair during my first 2 pregnancies (I dont really have a specific reason, and form what I’ve heard it is pretty safe), but I did try henna with my third little one. I was actually really happy with the results but it’s quite a long process. I’m currently pregnant with our 4th little one and I’ve been procratinating the henna just because it is such a big pain in the butt, but I think I will try and do it this week because I have a lot of white hair (I’m only 33 so that sucks!) and I really hate how it looks against my dark brown hair. Honestly if my hair wasnt turning white I would never colour my hair but what can you do.

I’m 33 weeks and don’t colour because I have very little grey at the moment. I coloured my hair before pregnancy because I liked the look.

My hair dresser reassured me throughout that she would carefully colour my hair if I chose. I’ve been her client for many years and we are friends so I know that she wouldn’t steer me wrong.

I agree that with ventilation your probably fine.

Enjoy the treat. 🙂

I had my hair highlighted during the second trimester and dyed my whole head in the third, no issues.

Elrodien :  I had mine colored several times while was pregnant with my son. Think about it many people who do the actual coloring are women who have more than likely been pregnant at one time or the other and they are around the stuff the whole 9 months.  They are fine.

I did it twice with boxed dye. I did my hair outside to get everything well ventilated. It’s easy to feel guilty but as long as you don’t do it too often it’s fine.

I know not dying your hair while pregnant used to be a thing. But none of my friends who have been pregnant in recent years have stopped dying their hair. I don’t intend to change my coloring routine when I get pregnant either. I really think you will be ok. If you’re still stressing out on Monday, call your doctor to put your mind at ease.

Also- to put things in perspective- consider all the stylists who continue to work throughout their pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies!

ClaudiaKishi :  I didn’t know you were pregnant?! Congrats! I’m out of the first trimester in a week too! 😊

OP, my doc said it’s fine after the first trimester. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

I don’t think there’s any risk to the baby when you dye your hair, the risk is to your hair because the hormones can cause your hair to react differently to the chemicals than it should or usually does. Did it turn out right?

llevinso :  Yup- due in December! Currently sporting a ton of grey hairs, too, which I will hopefully fix soon!
